Jerome Monk, born Jeremy Babbitt, is the older brother of Anton Riddler. He was given the name Monk for his studious nature.
Jerome and Anton were born to the prolific Babbitt family in the Dairy Cooperative. Since the 5th child was born, every one of the children, from the second one on down, was brought to the Church for testing in hopes of relieving the family of another mouth to feed.
Jerome was very successful in his studies and graduated ahead of his study partner, James Falodir. He spent his first internship as a calculator to a mining engineer in the northern mountains. After a visit home, he was sent on his journey-year to Mondrago to search for an artifact that was of possible interest to the Church, and was lost in the Great Sandstorm.
