04.06

On a spur of the moment whim I went to the Gangplank and got caught up in the moment there. I noticed Lia was dancing with a man this time, perhaps our combined comments made an impression upon the menfolk of Babbage. I myself was chatting with a few men and wound up dancing with Mister MichaelD Mannonen, the hero who rescued our dear Miss Hienrichs. Might I say it was a thrill to be dancing with him? Just how many ladies get to dance with such a man of action? *smiles and blushes a touch*

It also appears that I have received my first job so to speak but for a skill that I was not anticipating. Mr. Mannonen has asked me to try to contact a fellow military friend who died at sea. This will be interesting as this spirit will likely be a member of the Funayūrei, the dead of the sea. How to find a contact in that space will be the problem. I normally deal with spirits of the land and am not sure how to proceed. Time to dig through the notes again.

I have another issue with Mrs. Barry from our graveyard. She wants to return to the space where she was dragged from by Mr. Footman. However, I never have killed a spirit before only those who were contracted out to me by my clients. I think I need Mr. Somerset’s input on this if in no other matter than to release the binding so that she may return. I wonder if just by releasing the binding would be enough or if I need to do something else. I need to send another pigeon to the temple I guess. Nothing in my notes say anything about this. I have to watch as I am running low on these couriers. If I run out, I will have to travel home for a while. Which would not be all that bad mind you…

((I shall be glad to offer whatever assistance I can, though I should mention that working with spirits isn’t something I’m all that accustomed to myself, except for being able to devise protections effective against more hostile ones. However, the wards I have set over the graveyard should present no problems for any spirit wishing to move on to the afterlife. They were specifically designed to allow a spirit to leave the graveyard by that means, and by that means only. [“If ever you wish to fully depart from this mortal plane of existence and are able to do so, these wards won’t hold you back from that.”] My guess is that Footman’s machine is preventing Mrs. Barry’s return, not the wards, unless they have begun to malfunction. This is Babbage, after all. *sigh* Perhaps I should go back and check on them? It’s quite likely we would have a chance to meet if I do so, and we could discuss the various options once we know what we’re dealing with.))

Gotta be careful, Miss, remember you trying to send the lady back, not kill her spirit, tain’t the same at all! Course, it all depends what Mr Footman’s machine actually does… cus if it links up the poor old spirit with the bones an stuff that remain, then turning it off ain’t gonna break the link, but if it’s just a magnet fer ghosts, then any might turn up!
