“Sugar.” Phaedra growled, slamming the door to their apartment behind her, “The sugar, the cretin has hardened my sugar.”
“So?” Underby drawled, standing up from the dressing table, shedding his silk robe and turning his back to her, “ Lace me? Make Pip pound it back to powder for you.”
“He already is. It cannot go on like this! That creature has flattened my rolls, sanded my flour, cracked my eggs and now, and NOW, the sugar!” She took hold of the laces on Underby’s corset and started tightening them with vicious jerks.
“You should have taken care of this already.” He said between little gasps, “You’re slipping, getting lazy.”
“Nonsense,” she hissed, “I’m top of my game.”
“You’re distracted.”
“Of course I am! That rotten little imp has made it impossible for me to turn out even a basic French bread, little less a proper cake or pie!” She ran the laces round his waist and tied them off in a knot.
“It’s not the bread I’m talking about,” He said, shifting his petticoats, “The red one, don’t you think?”
She lowered the gown over his head and picked up the button-hook, doing the tiny row of buttons along the back, “What do you mean then?”
“Baroque.”
She jabbed him through the laces of the corset with the hook, “Don’t.”
“Mind that hook, lover,” He smiled over his shoulder at her, “take care of the goblin, that’s an order.”
“You don’t order me.” She nearly pulled the final button off the dress in vexation, slamming the hook down and starting to pace the small room.
Underby sat again in front of the dressing table, smoothing the skirts over his knees, “Don’t I? Come here, Phae.”
She paused in her pacing and let him reach out and take hold of her, pulling her into his lap. She sat stiffly. He frowned at her.
“What happened, Phae, did he reject your advances?” He ran a finger delicately along her neck and she shivered.
“Don’t be ridiculous. No one rejects me. You’re confusing me with yourself.”
“Ah, now, that’s my lovely little cobra, you just need something to sink your teeth into.” He picked up a pot of rouge from the table and dipped his pinky into it, smoothing it along her lips.
“I do, perhaps, need to sink my teeth into something, at the very least.” She smiled against his finger.
“You’re magnificent,” He purred, pulling her tight against him.
She softened, suddenly playful, “Am I?”
“Yes, you are.”

“Why I ask, this doesn’t make much sense, that a man of my stature, should have to wear a dress, I mean what may I inquire, were they thinking on that day, when they settled ona dress that ohhh looks so ga-ayyy ”

Well I wouldn’t understand why Mr. Underby needs a corset though he seems rather thin enough don’t you think?

As Tatsuya Mr. Underby…Corset…Dress? By the stars, that is an image that’ll be burnt into my mind forever. I’ll send the Underbys my Therapy bill now thank you very much. Oh, and Mrs. Underby, Your baked goods were never that good to begin with. So don’t worry what that pesky fool did to ruin them. If anything, he did us all a favour with what he did.

As Tatsuya Ah, Pip. The little kid who thinks he is a grown up. Are you trying to act all tough with your so called mean remarks? I say dear boy, You need a time out for all that rudeness. Such a naughty boy. Oh Mr. Pocket, may I suggest a tad of cement mixed with the next batch of flour?

If a man is going to wear a dress at least make it leather with spikes and such.
. . and weapons. Lots of weapons.
Well, kind of like some of the vampires do, actually.
What? . . that’s why they’re called vamps to begin with.
*Comment by Grendel Footman on June 22, 2010 at 9:33pm
I don’t know, Underby doesn’t make me think ‘vamp’ as much as ‘wormy’

Oh, let the poor man have his hobby. It gives him something to do in his spare time. I think Ms. Wickentower enjoys seeing him in self-imposed bondage anyway. By the way, with all the shops available my dear lady, shouldn’t we be thinking of moving to a “friendlier” neighborhood?

*Comment by Ceejay Writer on June 23, 2010 at 12:13pm
Pfft. If his private hobby is crossdressing, you lot should be relieved its nothing more dangerous!
*Comment by Phaedra Wickentower on June 23, 2010 at 12:19pm
Miss Writer is, as usual, the voice of reason. Miss Elleon, the corset is custom, have no fear. Miss Hermit: It’s the principal, the feline should learn to control her employees properly.

(( Just pointing out that in the 1890’s cross dressing would have been seen as dangerous. In 2010 – I concur with the pfht.))
Why would anyone want to wear a corset whether dey man or woman? Dey not lookin’ very comfortable to me.
*Comment by Phaedra Wickentower on June 23, 2010 at 1:57pm
((Point heard, response goes thusly: Fortunately we live in the alternate 1800’s, otherwise all these women in pants and short skirts and revealing tops would be in trouble too, wouldn’t they?))
Discipline, Miss Gearbox, and a desire for the perfect figure.

((It wasn’t unheard-of for a gentleman to wear a corset to maintain a dashing figure, either))
Head on one side Red? I would have expected something more in a deep plum on Mr. U, as his colouring tends more towards ‘winter’.
