Recently there has been word of a new military vessel operating in the Vernian sea. I am issuing this press release to quell inaccurate rumors.
The vessel in question is part of the New Babbage Militia, and I am pleased to announce that work on the flag ship for the Aerial branch is progressing well. The sea trials have been successful, and outfitting of the ship continues on schedule.
New Babbage owes a great debt to Ansgar Swords for his tireless service in the construction of this great ship. Although I am not at liberty to share any details about the capabilities of this vessel, I can share two photos of the ship.
This first image shows the profile view of the great ship. To gain an appreciation for the scale of this vessel, notice that Vice Admiral Swords and I are standing on the foredeck.

This second image shows the spacious topsides of the ship.

As you can see, this vessel will help to usher in a new era of peace and security for our fair sooty city. I am sure all citizens of New Babbage will sleep well tonight knowing that dedicated members of your Militia, such as Vice Admiral Swords, are ever vigilant and ready to defend our borders!
That is all.

ummmm…. are we planning to go to war with someone?
*Reply by Amadeus Hammerer on June 22, 2010 at 10:05am
Oh I think after the harassments of the last time (remember Steelhead for example) there is the need of a big vessel!
Or as a famous man once said:
“We shall go on to the end.
We shall fight in France(3D)
We shall fightover the seas and oceans.
we shall fight with growing confidence and growing strength in the air.
We shall defend our island whatever the cost may be
we shall fight on beaches, we shall fight on the landing grounds,
we shall fight in the fields and in the streets,
we shall fight on the hills.
We shall never surrender.”

It’s just a scare tactic, Tepic. It’s like how dogs growl and snarl when they’re protecting something but for the most part are nice and cuddly… well some are. We have it to show our teeth, so to speak, but hopefully never to use it.

hmmmm…… foxes don’t have a very good track record with dogs…..

Neither do cats… but just thought it was a good comparison.

Ship?
SHIP?
I think not MISTER Undertone.

Commodore Dagger,
Of course I have no desire to intrude into your affairs. You are doing a fine job as the head of our Naval Squadron. Without revealing too much of the capabilities of Ansgar Swords Vessel, I can say that, while being able to perform on the water’s surface, this vessel is actually an airship. I had hoped to keep this quiet a bit longer, but Mr. Footman’s observations pressed me to reveal more of our cards.
*Reply by Grendel Footman on June 22, 2010 at 1:26pm
I’ll admit as impressive as it looks, is it meant for naval deployment? it looks more like something to float around the aether, visiting the moon or Mars.
*Reply by Jimmy Branagh on June 23, 2010 at 9:42am
One should, of course, be more concerned with a ship’s capabilities then a ship’s somewhat unconventional cosmetic appearance, especially in what will soon be one of the most powerful warships, air or otherwise, in all the militia. Vice Marshall Swords is bringing new technology to the Corps, and has my complete confidence.

Captain Undertone this definitely looks a formidable vessel. You may be unaware however I had rather extensive naval service prior to my airship involvement.
May I make a humble suggestion that the Senior Service utilize the reconnaissance, and I may add weapon delivery capabilities of the new airship division. The two seem to compliment each other I am sure you would agree.
What is that saying, oh yes; the Navy has traditions the Army only has habits, and most of those are nasty, well that is what was said in the RN.
*Reply by Wiggy Undertone on June 23, 2010 at 4:48pm
Thank you for your kind offer Mr. Chelmsford.
*Reply by Nightshade on June 23, 2010 at 4:20pm
Ansgar is taking credit for the construction?
==Comments (page 2)==
*Reply by Wiggy Undertone on June 23, 2010 at 4:42pm
No, Ansgar has commissioned the construction of this vessel, and is financing it’s construction. I should have made that clear in my announcement.
*Reply by Grendel Footman on June 23, 2010 at 5:11pm
well, if any more naval support is needed, I have a few ideas I’m working on (that aren’t sea animal based for once)
*Reply by Ryne Beck on June 24, 2010 at 10:47am
Good Lord! I wonder if the Steelhead Navy are aware of this… acquisition?

You do realize that most of the naval officers in the Steamlands are on a first name basis?

((I was more meaning in light of the RPed spat between NB & Steelhead at the moment :) ))

The building of a great ship of war is often seen as an act with military ambition. It has caused some degree of suspicion before. While it is true that no one ship is an unmatchable weapon, it’s also true that such things carry a symbolic meaning that can grow out of proportion to their actual military significance.
This is particularly true of the navy. It is well known that navy is primarily a weapon of offense whereas the army is somewhat more versatile in its applications.
(( That’s a good point. Even without that political hissing contest there would be concern. I recall from reading about the days of the dreadnought that they were often seen in much the same way as nuclear weapons are today, at least by the citizenry. ))
*Reply by Ryne Beck on June 24, 2010 at 6:02pm
((Yup, you only have to look at how the building up of the German Navy before both WW1 & 2 were viewed and how the Japanese Navy has been viewed since WW2 until very recently – this could be seen, if you pardon the pun, as a shot across the bows of Steelhead and I hope much RP flows from it – for my part, I’ll certainly be sending a message back to Mayor Eclipse via the Steelhead Ning :-D ))
*(Reply by Wiggy Undertone on June 24, 2010 at 6:52pm
((Indeed! I am hoping the construction of this airship will ratchet up the tensions between Steelhead and New Babbage. All in good fun of course!))

I shall have to add a special airship song to my set this Sunday to commemorate this addition to our fine defense!

Beck, you need to prescribe yourself some sedatives.
As commander of the naval forces of New Babbage, I can say we are NOT mobilizing.

*Reply by Amadeus Hammerer on June 27, 2010 at 7:24am
So in this way you want to let us know, that the naval forces are not ready to defend our home in times of danger and harassment?
((Time to help Mr Beck a little!;-) ))

Mr. Lekvoda, I see that you are a member of the Milita, but I was not aware that you had been promoted to acting commander. May I ask who promoted you?

((It’s probably a good time to say that all this Babbage vs Steelhead stuff is all RP – optional RP at that – and being done with email communication with both Mayors to ensure no one takes it the wrong way and it’s only seen a a brief spell of fun between OOC [and IC] friendly states.))
*Reply by Amadeus Hammerer on July 1, 2010 at 4:13am
(( IC friendly states? A little bit like Elves and Dwarves in my eyes. Or soot-lovers and tree huggers?;-) ))
*Reply by Ryne Beck on July 1, 2010 at 5:29am
((Bwahahahaha, yes! I’m in the middle really as I’ve only lived in Steelhead for a year and had contemplated moving into Babbage so emotionally have a foot in both camps. IC Dr Beck was washed up in Steelhead after a shipwreck and cared for by the townsfolk so he’s very loyal to them, but he came from a big industrialised city and can’t help but see the beauty beneath the soot of Babbage. In terms of RP, it’s just been fun to build these links and make friends and hopefully seed more stories between us ;-D ))
