The Pennyfeather Murder – Skyler was framed

From: Mr Victor A. A. Mornington
Dear Mr Undertone
After perusing your murder scene for about 5 minutes while taking a walk around Babbage I am shocked and stunned sir that you have failed to see the blinding obvious facts of this case.
Skyler Gant was framed.
Lets take a look at the evidence I have come across to substantiate this claim.
1: The Murder Scene
Pennyfeather Park is a large open square plaza with no obvious areas of hiding or coverage. The fact that a tall man, roughly in the area of 6 and a half feet tall can be knocked on the head by a brick from a young urchin who is roughly 3 and a half foot tall would mean that young skyler would have to walk right up to the murdered person, stand right infront of him, then step on a 2 foot tall box, raise his arms while standing on the box and then make a large two armed swipe at the gentlemens head, all this would take roughly 2 minutes, ample time for the murdered victim to run off, or apprehend young skyler and take him into custody. The parjk has no hiding places, no shadowed areas and is completley open. There is no skuffed marks on the snow which would signify a box being dradded, and then stepped on.
2: The footprints
Set 1…
Set 2…
Set 3…
There are at least 4 sets of different footprints in this area. One is light, which signifys a light or short person, like young skyler, however the rest are all heavy…VERY heavy footprints signifying someone carrying a large heavy bundle of objects or someone who is rather…portly.
1 set of footprints can be set to skyler. 1 set can be set to the murder victim, but Mr Undertone, did you even stop to think who the other heavy set footprints belong to? Also…did you consider looking upwards into the sky above Pennyfeather?
3: The airship
There is an Ananke class airship permanently moored above Pennyfeather Park. It’s door’s are ALWAYS left open for visitors. I would surmise…no, thats the wrong word, I would state my reputation here that a person, or persons, carried a set of bricks into Pennyfeather park, stacked them in the airship for later use, then came back to the airship as young Skyler and the murder victim was there, then proceeded to throw bricks down hitting the murder victim squarley on the head, splattering young skyler with his blood and causing trauma to a young person mind since at that velocity bricks travel very fast and you have to have a very keen eye to spot them. From skylers point of view it would have looked like the murder victims head just exploded with blood.
There is also a fourth peice of info…a timelord landing area right next to the murder spot…
4: The landing spot
This picture was taken on the rare occaision of a —– exterior actually landed on the spot, and, as you can see, it is right NEXT to the murder scene!
This proof leads me to two seperate conclusions.
1: There was several people who followed the murder victim from Caledon to New Babbage with an intent to murder outside of the jurisdiction of Caledon and commit murder in New Babbage, a city widley known for its murders which is generally forgotten about. This group of people could have been loansharks, disheveled former inmates of the murder victims orphanage, or even the murder victims own family.
2: The murderer t-ravels through time-…if this is the case, you will never catch the person.
I hope this letter brings you to a conclusion that young Master Gant is indeed innocent of all crimes and should therefore be let free and the militia should be put to use in scouring this city from top to bottom to find this murderer. If indeed it was a group of people then the murderers are still in the city.
Yours
V. A. A. Mornington

Yes! it’s all true it makes sense that they’d throw the brick from an airship!
Skyler IS innocent!

well if it was a timelord that did it, then that tardis should be impounded, keep him from getting away

Oh thank you so much Victor! I knew Skyler couldn’t be guilty!

Eamon…again
If the boy is a killer, highly doubtful, then I can always provide him with many places for him to hide from you filthy humans and your false accusations.

String him up! And if the Mers try to hide him depth charge them all!

As Eamon
Are you jealous because you couldn’t get to the human first old man?
*Comment by Clarabella Lucy Corryong on November 30, 2009 at 3:06am
Oh no you shouldn’t string him up and he didn’t do it and maybe the person who did was being heroic and acting in self defense?
*Comment by Victor Frostwych on November 30, 2009 at 3:08am
I know me mate Skyler wouldn’t ‘ave done it!
Skyler hates that man! ‘e would ‘ave killed him much worse!

Victor, there are actually only 3 sets of footprints.
1) Set of large footprints, distinct heel and toe, with a symbol between. It comes in from the south, and ends in the scuffle at the scene of the crime. This set obviously belongs to the victim.
2) Set of small footprints, with a distinct heel and toe. This also approaches from the south, is involved in the scuffle, leaves the scene to head back south, then turns around and goes back to the scene, then finally departs toward the west and exits by City Hall. I surmise this set to belong to Skyler. This pattern fits in with Skyler’s statement to Captain Undertone.
3) Set of small footprints, with a solid sole–no distinct heel and toe marks. This enters the park from the museum, comes to the scene of the crime, then leaves the scene and disappears into a sewer just outside the northwest corner of the park.
It is this last set that is the mystery. That is the person we need to find.

there’s also apparantly two bricks, the chalk outline of the one that killed the man, and another brick laying nearby, pretty much supports the throwing of bricks from the airship idea.
still think that Tardis should be impounded before the real murderer uses it to make a getaway

But what motive would such a person have for killing Mr. DeFaw?
I would say that the most likely possibility is that the murderer is someone else connected with that orphanage.
*Comment by Grendel Footman on November 30, 2009 at 7:33pm
There could be all sorts of motives not directly related to the orphanage, a failed blackmail attempt, or mugging, revenge for some reason, maybe he was too friendly wth someone’s wife, who can tell without asking the murderer directly

What is this Tardis? And why would a lord wish to kill an orphanage owner? I see the object that you are referring to, but it is a common stone crypt, not a castle for a lord. Victor, I do hope you have not been in the absinthe lately.
The brick is a common enough brick, and freely available about on the ground all over Babbage. The more obvious chain of events is that young Skyler snatched up a brick and brained the man. I believe that DaFew and Skyler scuffled, and when DaFew was bent over, Skyler hit him. Simple as that.
As for the tracks, I am unable at present to explain the third set of tracks. Miss Bookworm Hienrichs makes a good point.
I have made prints of Skyler’s and DaFaw’s footwear. Hmm. I may have to revisit the scene.

Yes thats right Mr Undertone, me being a timelord of the past 350 odd years wouldnt be able to spot an exterior from a few mere feet away….
I must say as cheif investigator you seem very intent on commiting young skyler for this crime…are you perhaps hiding something yourself?
I say that Wiggy Undertone should be officially investigated by the militia, for blatantly ignoring evidence!
*Comment by Matthew Masingh on November 30, 2009 at 9:11pm
To be fair, even young Gil knew it belonged to a time lord…..and also to be fair, a brick could have been thrown hard or used from inside the TARDIS without leaving any footprints (I am telling you…plenty of reason to acquit Skyler if it goes to trial)
*Comment by Gilhooly Skute on November 30, 2009 at 9:23pm
well… it looks like one o’ them flyin’ door boxes is all… but the kind ye stuff dead blokes in.
*Comment by Bookworm Hienrichs on November 30, 2009 at 9:34pm
Ahh, but Captain Undertone, why would Skyler’s prints show that he walked–yes, walked–away from the scene, and then returned, if he had indeed murdered Mr. DeFaw? It was only *after* his return that he ran away–the footprints leading toward City Hall are farther apart, showing that he was running then. That simply doesn’t make sense if he’s guilty.

frowns I’m at a loss at the moment. Tomorrow I shall take another look at the crime scene.

take a look at those other footprints too while you’re at it

Mr. Undertone, you seem to be deliberately ignoring this third set of footprints. This begs the question of WHY you are ignoring them.

scratches his head A third set of footprints? I really would like to take another look before commenting. My duties are rather pressing though, perhaps I shall find time next week. Or the week after that…

Hmmm, why don’t you think the 3rd set of prints should matter Miss Clara. I have heard rumors that people think you may have done it as well. Are you hiding something?
