==Summary==

The LLL, also known as the New Babbage Ladies Liberty League, is a group comprised of active and concerned women who make it their mission to fight for equality and to extinguish any form of degradation towards women.

They have an affinity towards pie, bustle-burning, picket-signs.

”’The LLL Charter, as written by the founding members:”’

The women of New Babbage face one too many injustices on a daily basis! As proper ladies in this grand city, we must fight for what is justly ours, demand that we be treated fairly, and uphold the rights of respectable ladies.

We acknowledge the following injustices:

• Being subjected to becoming wallflowers at dance functions.

• Having our knees be the subject of unwanted gazes from certain men (read: members of that deplorable group, the RRR)

• Being slaves to restrictive fashions of our time that harm our health for the sake of beauty. Our bustles and dresses weigh more than we do! We have the right to choose our fashions based upon any preference we may have and change our styles in as long or short of a period as we choose without being subject to the unwanted gazes of some men.

• We are assumed to be more docile than we are and as such, are not entrusted with the same diligent counsel as our male counterparts.

Therefore, we propose:

• Classes in learning the art of persuading a man to dance.

• Bustle burning! Rid yourselves of those unwanted weights you carry around on a daily basis. Additionally, learning how to wear comfortable fashions without showing too much knee.

• Self defense classes that teach what every lady should know: where to properly conceal your weapons and how to rid yourself of any unwanted advances.

• Protests that demand we be treated as equals, that our minds be recognized as being just as sharp and full of wit, our bodies seen always in a respectable manner, and our skills just as fierce.

Major Q is pleased that you are liberal enough to let men join the LLL and post comments here too :)

I believe we’ve agreed that men are only allowed to partake in the pie sharing if they wear a kilt.

But by all means, if you have your own bustle to burn Major Q, then I’m sure it would make a nice fire.

well … the pie sharing is very tempting

looks at the second item

Actually, when it comes to rampaging, I’m thinking this is probably going to be how I am. *grin*

*Comment by Charlie Quintessa on July 6, 2010 at 10:21am
so let me get this straight … I wear a kilt, I have the company of a dozen or so ladies, free pie, and free tickets to shows …..
I’m in!
(Sky – you need to look in your chest … winks)

*Comment by Sky Netizen on July 6, 2010 at 10:26am
Who said anything about free tickets?!

And you, sir, are a cad! *glares and covers herself with her jacket*

This man seeks to destroy what we have built as respectable ladies! He must be…PICKETED!

I demand we be treated with care and respect, regardless of any pirate status.

*Comment by Charlie Quintessa on July 6, 2010 at 10:35am
PICKETED! I only wanted free pie .. hmph

*Comment by Jedburgh Dagger on July 6, 2010 at 2:25pm
Pie?
This is not about free desserts, this is about respect! This is about our rights! This is about freedom!

wonders if she needs to start looking for a new maitre’ d for the White Rabbit…. and perhaps a sommelier as well since the wine cellar seems to need so much attention… the last thing a fledgling restaurant needs is picketing…

BURN YOUR BUSTLES!

While doing some reading on the subject I found this fascinating article: The Birth and Death of the Victorian Bustle.

I propse we replace the group image with a real image of the ladies at their protest. All in favor?

*Comment by Verlia Bilavio on July 11, 2010 at 11:37pm
Hmm… we need a protest first with picket signs.

*Comment by Verlia Bilavio on July 12, 2010 at 9:33pm
From here on, I declare that we shall no longer burn bustles. We are not woman of waste, we do not go around burning to our hearts content that which does not amuse us. We must instead refashion our woes into something useable.

Therefore, I declare that all unwanted bustles be donated to be resown into garments for the poor.

*Comment by Elleon Bergamasco on July 13, 2010 at 7:28pm
Or perhaps… change the frivolous nature of the bustle.. make them.. useful! Perhaps carry an extra snack in them? or.. apples for the urchins? A hidden compartment for spare shoes in case of rain or zombies? Hmmmm…

*Comment by Sky Netizen on July 13, 2010 at 8:12pm
And what would the consequences be if a member of the LLL were to rebel and continue to burn bustles?

Theoretically speaking, of course…. Comment by Fono Heninga on July 13, 2010 at 8:25pm
Theoretically?

One would run out of bustles to burn and must find something else to burn in their stead.

A thriving new industry appears, to deal with bustle-related waste.

A thriving new industry appears, providing bustles for burning.
