dear mother,

well… it feels rather odd to be writing those words, as we have grown quite so estranged… assuredly it is i, a rather confused child, who am to blame… i feel quite awful that i have disappointed you so bitterly, while not quite knowing how…

is it because i quite failed to fulfil my prophecy as a moonchild? or perhaps it is simply that i am a petulant, unruly, ungrateful daughter, full of spite and mischief, that causes you to grieve so. i am rather imperfect, i am afraid… it is my impish nature, i am sure of it, that leads me astray so dreadfully! tears are trickling to my eyes when i write that i am so sorry, mother, that i want to make amends.

i know you have been attending the church of the builder, of late… perhaps you are turning over a new leaf? might you find it in your heart to forgive, of all souls, one whom you brought into the world? i do hope so. i feel rather alone and out in the cold, without someone from whose wisdom i might draw guidance and confidence, which you must know i so badly need at this precarious time in one’s life.

and then perhaps i may have purpose and not disappoint you quite so terribly. i may learn a few tricks. and i may usefully run errands and such, and not least of all annoy the mayor. please?..

your daughter (quite whether you like it or not),
lo pixie.

My ramoo say dat a mudder suppose’ to love you no matter if’n you bad or good. Mamma Mara say dat de truth. So, maybe it your mamma who is bad an’ not you…

Lo – I have consulted with my grandmother and neither of us see you as unruly, petulant, or spiteful. Being full of mischief is what a child is supposed to be, and if you are an ungrateful daughter it is only because you have nothing to be grateful for.

What a charming woman you are, miss Razor. Though I shall point out that that child is rather more full of mischief than most and for good reason, just look at who her father was.

*looks hesitantly over at mara and zaida, as if she rather wants to say something… gazes up at phaedra and smiles uncertainly … *
