”A Letter to Miss Lo Pixie (Dated April 27)”
Lo,
I am afraid that what needs to be said cannot be written on frail parchment.
What I can say is this, my girl. I have written you a hundred letters that wound up in my cook-fire, some, I will admit, were quite cruel. Give me but a little more time, and I shall have a home for myself, and should be glad to welcome you to it.
your mother,
Phaedra.
P.S. If you wish to have someone with you when first we meet again, I shall understand perfectly. Certainly I have done little to earn you trust, but as you said, I have had quite a change of heart of late and am ready to, ah, try again with you.

*clutches phaedra’s letter, a little wide-eyed* … thankyou, zaida… it might be wise to be circumspect, mightn’t it?…

*reads a carbon copy of the letter to Lo in a far away land*
*crumples it up and tosses it into a nearby bonfire*
*screams are heard in the distance*
