In the course of my explorations of the city I discovered some curious seeds among the rocks in the Palisade area. They matched the description of seeds produced by the Martian Red Weed, or Creeper, which grew with such explosiveness during the days of the invasion.
I assumed they were dead but I placed a few in a sterile chamber on the change they might sprout. And they did! Perhaps it was the winter cold that kept them dormant.
The plants have been growing nicely these last few days and has been fascinating to observe them first hand. The chamber was set to water the plants daily, in very small amounts, which I surmise is the case in their natural habitat.
However, I went away on an overnight trip and when I returned today I found that the plants had burst out of the chamber and covered the entire bridge! (which arches over the house where I’m staying, in the New Babbage area) Apparently the device had broken during the night and was giving the plants much too much water.

I hired some workmen to cut a path though the mess to the door of the house but as for the rest, clearing it would be a huge job. Hopefully it will not spread down the canal. (contemplates using a flamethrower) In the meantime I’m designing a new biological chamber and will try again with more caution. One lives and learns.

That is a huge water source just below. If it grew that much with a limited water supply….but what could possibly go wrong?

naw, they are a food source for the martians…they grow well with iron, so if you want them to thrive, just feed them blood…or the town of New Babbage
