What would you want on a new site?

So I have been going over things and hate to say I’m kind-of over Drupal (especially when the site suddenly looses all of our images in the gallery) So I am thinking of making a new site.

Of course with making a new site comes lots of requests on what people would like for it. First off I am planning on making it in wordpress so if you have things you like about wordpress let me know here. At the same time…

What would you like to see improve from this site?

What things would you add, subtract, modify?

Any wish list items that never seemed to cut it here that you would like to see tried again with wordpress?

I have learned a bit more of CSS and HTML since the last time I did this so I should be able to make it look prettier than before (like profiles and the like hopefully)

Anyway answer away and I will try to see what I can do.

Spread the love

Hmmmm….. I quite like this site and it’s features, has served us well most of the time, thank you Cyan. Adding content can be a bit complicated sometimes (I press the wrong button at the wrong time) but better than other sites I use.

Thanks, Cyan, for taking this on. Those features that keep us connected as a community and let us know what’s going on. I can’t make all of the events, but I like reading about them.

I also like WordPress (I use WordPress to host my private author blog) but I can see problems trying to host this New Babbage site there. Sadly, it won’t allow us to debate topics in the form of forum discussions. Also, it is very awkward trying to give permission to members to post new topics, each person must be added separately as a contributor. WordPress is great for one person (or a small group of people) informing others about what is happeing but it isnt the right format for a large number of people to contribute in the form of discussions.

However, in answer to your original question: I like the features of this site a great deal but I would also love the opportunity to be able to add videos here, myself. There have been many times when I have produced a steampunk video but I have never found a way of sharing it here by embedding it in a post. (Perhaps there is a way but, if there is, I have never discovered it!)

Actually with Buddypress and bbpress we can do both of these, in fact already have those integrated into the new test site right now. My only real issues with it at the moment are time and scripting. I don’t know enough java yet in order to make my own widgets, and in order to make the site almost identicle to our current site (just hopefully better working) then I would need to learn that or at least have someone who knows how to do it.
