TO ARMS! ((cross posted from Ning))

Upon entering the Militia Headquarters this evening, I was horrified to discover the ruby that was so recently acquired has been stolen!   Bookworm Heinrichs was nearby, and she was present to help me examine the broken locks and empty box.
A note was left on the empty box that stated:

Don’t take what isn’t yours and Leave my property alone!

The note was left by Doctor Obolensky as he took the ruby.  No doubt he has already reinstalled it in his death ray machine!  Obolensky’s bold action confirms what I already suspected:  the ruby is key to the operation of his death ray!

I am looking for several Militia members who can accompany me on a return
visit to the observatory.  Our goal is simple:   Turn the observatory
upside down until we find that ruby!

Members of the Militia,
the security of our city is threatened by that machine!  I urge all of
you to step forth and aid your brethren!
((The raid is scheduled for Saturday, August 14 at 5:00 PM SLT.  Please let me know if you can participate by IM or by replying to this post))

I’ve just heard from Sgt O’Cod, a retired reservist, who heard the call to arms and volunteered his aid!  Such a civic-minded citizen!   I’m sure his selfless actions will be an example for all!  What say you New Babbage?  Will anyone else step forth for this fair city?

Not to worry!   Luckily, justice prevailed, and that horrible villain, Professor Parx, was ejected from the home of that upstanding citizen, Doctor Obolensky!

The raid on the Observatory was conducted with great efficiency by your local Militia.  ((Bookworm Heinrichs has a wonderful account of the event on her blog.))

During the raid,  an interesting turn of events unfolded.  To summarize, Professor Parx had taken up residence in the Observatory during Doctor Obolenksy’s absence. Parx did not have Obolensky’s permission, and was essentially a squatter in the Observatory. After Bookworm was knocked unconscious by Parx, the Professor made his get away. His wheelchair is rigged with rockets, and he was able to fly away very quickly! We were not able to pursue him.
The Death Ray was actually built by Parx, not Obolenksy. In that, I was mistaken. In fact, Doctor Obolenksy has not committed any major crime at this time that I am aware of. Therefore, much as it pains me to make the following statement:

Be it known to all that the fugitive Professor Parx stands accused of trespassing, construction of a machinery and the planning for an attack of New Babbage with probable injury of her citizens. As such, a request for the issue of a warrant for the arrest of Professor Parx has been submitted.

Furthermore, be it known that as of this writing Doctor Obolensky is entirely innocent of any an all wrongdoing, and is a victim of circumstance.

Professor Parx is to be considered armed and dangerous. Do not approach or attempt to apprehend him yourself.

All in all, everything turned out well I think.  Professor Parx has been evicted, and the ruby has been recovered and will be turned over to the rightful owner, a museum in Belgium.  Doctor Obolensky has once again taken possesion of his Observatory.  Let us hope that he will turn his significant talents to good, or at least away from evil.
