OOC: In keeping with the theme of the troublesome portrait that has caused Victor some grief recently, I have hidden six paintings with various people around town (actually, 1 is in Armada Breakaway). Five are forgeries and one is the original and I have challenged Victor to find them.
The challenge will start Friday June 1st and if Victor finds all six by the end of June I will donate 15 000 lindens to the New Babbage RFL team. I also have a pledge of 5000 lindens from one of the participants. So that’s 20 grand if Victor is successful. In addition, I will give him the original portrait of the ‘virgin queen’ posing with the ‘mysterious benefactor.’ Yes, the portrait really exists.
I will send out a 1 prim item to the six conspirators by Friday if they wish to really hide the item (which might be fun for photos and ‘proof’ that Victor has found it) however this hunt will largely take place through the BAR so a simple acknowledgement that he has found it will suffice.
I will give Victor 12 official guesses as to who is in possession of the paintings. He is allowed to use any investigative means possible other than ask someone directly ‘Do you have it?’ (that counts as an official guess.) I will provide clues periodically on the BAR to keep it moving forward.
Regarding the questioning technique, he can ask as many indirect questions as he likes, such as ‘Is there one in Wheatstone?‘ (there is) but not direct questions like ‘Does Junie Ginsburg have one?‘ (she doesn’t), that would count as one of his 12 official guesses.
Everyone in possession of a forgery must be truthful with Victor. The person in possession of the original may be evasive and through design it will be the last painting found. In the interests of fairness, Victor knows everyone involved. The rules are still somewhat fluid and I am the only judge. Others are welcome to search too but please don’t post locations if you find one.
One final note, there may be a seventh painting hidden as I sent out seven invites to participate. If I hear from the 7th person Victor will get 14 official guesses.
EMERSON!!!!
*gets my thinking cap on which i stole from Mr Tenk*
with apologies to Art and Paul…
Good luck to you Victor Mornington
Babbage loves you more than you will know (Woo, woo, woo)
God bless you please, Victor Mornington
Heaven holds a place for those who pray
(Hey, hey, hey…hey, hey, hey)
Hide it in a hiding place where no one ever goes
Put it in your TARDIS with your cupcakes
It’s a little secret, just the Morningtons’ affair
Most of all, you’ve got to hide it from the Ems
*smiles and starts to sing along with Jed…*
((Once I stop laughing that is))
Oh good! Twenty questions! hehehe
is its hiding spot larger than a breadbox….?
Emerson Lighthouse sat back thinking about the 5 hidden forgeries wondering if perhaps he may have tipped his hand in anyway…
‘Did I say something about Wheatstone? Drat, I did! Oh, well… things have been busy with the New Babbage bar crawl today, perhaps Victor didn’t pick up on that. Still, I wonder if she managed to hide it somewhere out of sight…’
Right…time to shorten the odds a bit here…
I know theres one in Wheatstone…so…
Is there one in *insert all the other regions of new babbage here*?
…yes emerson, im going to drive you insane with question after question till itgets to the stage that you will be driven mad, be certified, and then i will take over your estates!
*Emerson chuckles over a glass of Chivas*
Who says I’m not already mad?
After the one in Wheatstone has been found I’ll let another of the 5 regions where I’ve hidden one slip out.
Next question…out of the paintings hidden away, how many of them are in pubs or “social aeras” when i say “social areas” i mean places which hold regular city events like dances for instance.
Oh… excellent question…
*Emerson thinks*
The one in Armada is in a public place, I know that for sure…
one of the New Babbage paintings is in a public place
Ya aint making this any easier EMERSON!!!!!!
The painting in Wheatstone is not with Breezy… so would I have left it on the east side of the Stora – or on the west side?
how’s that?
The first one must be in your house in Wheatstone then :)
If we were playing ‘warmer/colder‘ I might start saying ‘warmer’ at this point.
He really is not making this easy for Mr Mornington. ^_^
I’ll give him the locations by sim of 5 of the 6paintings:
1. Wheatstone
2. New Babbage
3. The Port
4. Armada Breakaway
5. Clockhaven
If other people want to play along, IM or private message me with your answers. Also, if people wanted to offer a small RFL pledge to support Victor I’m sure he would appreciate the encouragement.
Ok…
The first painting has got to be with Bookworm…
Okay, congratulations on that one! Don’t hold it against Ms. Hienrichs. I told her it was a Rezday gift for Junie.
Where next?
YAY! I got one! Can we just skip the others? *coughs*
Ok…next…lets go for the one in the New Babbage sim…
First question…is it located somewhere in The Gut?
Yes, the New Babbage painting is in The Gut.
While walking into The Gut from Babbage Square, is this persons house on the left or right?
Let me look at my map for a second…
*Emerson, unfolds the map very slowly in an effort to stall as he tries to think up some sort of obfuscation… but can’t.*
The right.
You’re never going to get that map refolded, you know.
I bet Malus could do it.
What is so hard about folding a map?
*Looks at Emerson suspiciously* Your right or his right?
Actually looking at whos staying in the gut regularly, it can only really bew one person…
Does Satu have the second picture?
Well Victor, add an extra week to our Chivas deal and I will accept that answer. The second portrait is with a certain 7′ 7″ doctor who has recently relocated to the Gut.
Where next?
Ok…Port Babbage…
First question…is it in a locality where boxing matches take place?
What the hell!? We’re not just known for having boxing matches. We have a weight bench for working out! And a no chair policy cause only liars sit in chairs. Also, a direct supplier of Armadan Rum and Ravilan Port! And mermaids stop in and all sorts of folks pass by!
Wait, where was I going with this? Oooh, right. Um, yeah. It might just be in that place in Port where you think it is. But we’re so much more, dammit!
*snickers*
I want proof you found this one Mornington!
That’s why we have chairs in Iron Bay. Liars are welcome. Some boxing, but monkey knife fights is where the real action is.
*laughs*
Man, the Gangplank is boring by comparison to ‘Cuffs and Ahab’s Bane. All we have is a hookah, toad-licking urchins and a hole in the cellar.
Emerson, we have to do something about this!
Lets make it official…
Mr Emerson, you evil evil man…is the next painting in the hands of The Melniks?
They are in Ravila so it is not actually in their hands… but yes, it is in their bar. Congratulations on finding the third painting.
ok, next up…Clockhaven…
Is it in Avariels power station?
Well, it is Avariel’s possession – but technically I’m not sure if it is *in* the power station.
o.O
eh?
Sorry, that’s just me getting caught up on prepositions… ‘in’ / ‘under’… what’s the difference?
So you’ve found 4 of them now – impressive.
It’s off to Armada next.
So… it was not a really early Christmas present after all!
Sorry about that little white lie Avariel. It was a necessary bending of the truth for your own protection. I’ll make sure Victor knows you were innocently doing me a favour and not actively trying to hide his property.
By the way, I found your stash of mushroom yesterday. Do you count them regularly?
The mushrooms multiply too quickly to count… I try to just leave them to their mushroomy lives. *nods*
We should play chess some time, Miss Falcon. Thanks for taking part
I keep meaning to go down there and find someone to have a game with.
Doctor, my deepest gratitude for being a part of this BAR caper. I’d be happy to spend an afternoon playing chess with you.
Ok, Armada is gonna be a tricky one…i aint got a clue about that sim. Lets go for the main choice…
Does Jervil have it and is it hidden somewhere on the Soverign?
Vernden Jervil is a great guess, and right from the start too. He is an Armadan friend of mine who often stops by The Gangplank for drinks. I might also have guessed him first if I were you – which is why it is not with Vernden. Let’s put that answer in the ‘wrong’ column.
Oh good glad to be a useful decoy!
Hmmmmmmm…
Am I gonna have to get on an airship and actually go to Armada to have a look around? Thats just SO much WORK!
EMERSON!!!!
Oh! Victor!
If you’re going over to Armada *anyway*, can you pick up some more rum? We’re running short at the Gangplank.
o.O
Ok Emerson, you evil, evil man…
Is the Armada portrait with Ceeeeeeeeeeeeejay?
Damn! And I was just gloating to a bar full of people last night that you were having trouble with the Armadan portrait.
So you’ve found all five of Bert’s forgeries. Fortunately the original is well hidden.
EMERSON!
I’m going to count that as a guess and put it in the wrong column.
You evil….evil man…
Ok, first question.
Is thew original picture somewhere in the city?
holding our breaths… here … waiting …. (( this is quiet clever gentlemen quite clever indeed!))
*picks up a walking cane and starts prodding Emerson*
*starts prodding Mr Lighthouse with her horn*
“Wake up! Its time for more questions!”.
Okay, sorry for the delay. Malus and I just took a day trip up to Dairy and back so I could pick up some hookah leaf from a farmer friend of mine.
What was your question?… *scans up*
yes the original portrait is within the collection of New Babbage sims.
Because some people are lazy hotelier’s who didn’t actually go around photographing the fake portraits someone else ((Completely OOCly)) went around finding them for the BAR pictures.
Behind a bookshelf
A cramped basement
Behind some crates
Check and mate in two pictures
Clowns make awful guards
((I’m very impressed))
Have YOU got the original portrait Emerson?
*laughs as he adds another tick in the ‘wrong’ column.
((I haven’t seen the transfer only item since I sent it off to the final conspirator))
Is the final picture in Clockhaven?
The picture is moving around a bit from what I understand, but last I heard it was not in Clockhaven
“Moving around a bit”
o.O
Ha! Looks Like I may have stumped Victor. The 100 year old portrait of ‘the mysterious benefactor’ and the ‘virgin queen’ of La Isla del Hoja del Diablo Dulce, has been secured in a New Babbage sim… one that was not used to hide a forgery.
Hmmm…is it in Babbage Square?
Can I just shoot him for you and end this?
Well, aren’t you adorable…
How about you shoot them both?
Win win.
You owe me my goat back!
*smirks*
You couldn’t possibly be referring to Tenk’s goat Ilsa, could you?
*pours a drink.*
Where?
*Pulls out a rediculously large cigar and bites off the end.*
Babbage Square… let me think…
*Finds a light and blows a lot of smoke*
Nope
Is it in Academy?
I have to admit that the thought of hiding one in your own backyard did cross my mind, but no, the portrait is not hidden in the Academy… you are narrowing the options down though.
Lets try next door, is it in Palisade?
*coughs on his cigar*
Drat… Mornington is close, I hope my final co-conspirator is vigilant.
*reaches for cheque book just in case*
…….someone who is a resident of Palisade…who is on regularly.
Hmmmmm….
Is it…Beq Janus?
I feel you closing in Victor, it’s only a matter of time.
*starts to eye the RFL kiosk… it was all for a good cause!*
It is not Beq… and I’m not sure the person who has the portrait can be considered a resident of Palisade (but the portrait is definitely in the Palisade).
Is it with…
…Duchess Christine?
*holds her breath and silently roots for Victor*
EMERSON!!!!!
*poke poke poke poke poke poke poke poke*
EMERSON!!!!!!!!!!!!
Not Beq, sorry to disappoint you and Junie ;-)
I meant Christine. It is not Christine who has it..
I do think this means that Victor has only two guesses left…one if you were serious about counting:
EMERSON!
I’m going to count that as a guess and put it in the wrong column.
Oh Arnold, you know I am always serious.
One guess left…
One….
Ok…shes in Pally, but doesnt live there, but has a partner who does live there. Ive already asked if it was Christine, but its not, which leaves Beq’s partner…however Beq’s partner isnt online a lot (once a week i think) so Emerson wouldnt have had the time to chat with her.
Which leaves Kimika’s land in Pallisade, which means…
…does Jed have the portrait?
Only one flaw in your logic. I dolive in Palisades. My shop is in #7. I moved in with Kimika when the old Salon closed.
oh-oh, that might have been my fault. I think I told Victor the portrait was with someone who didn’t live in the Palisades.
So much for be evasive. Ya chucklehead….
As I said before, it was all for charity. Congratulations Victor and thanks for a fun month. The portrait is yours (maybe we should post a picture of it on the BAR just so people know it was real).
Jed has the original no copy / no mod item (you may have to bargain with her a bit).
Point me to the RFL kiosk where you would like my donation. There is also a donation coming from one of the participants. I’ll leave it up to her which RFL kiosk it goes in.
I just want to thank:
Bookworm Heinrichs
Kristos Sonnerstein
Sky and Scottie Melnik
Ceejay Writer
Avariel Falcon
Jed Dagger
It was a lot of fun!
By the way, seeing as I am a bit tapped out right now do you think you might spare a few sagrada lucias to go with all that chivas?
So you admit your estate is nearing bankruptcy and poor Junie will be living on the streets with dear of Mumsy?
Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm?
:D
I’d like to thank Emerson and everyone else who made this a fun hunt! Had a blast doing this :D
Not to worry, Mr. Mornington. We can come live at the Brunel for awhile and see you every day.
Won’t that be grand!
P.S. You need to trim that tail of yours, hippie.
O.O
I like goats with long hair. *nods*
“You know,” Emerson said to Junie over some toast and marmalade. “Malus’s mom might need a place to stay when she comes to town. We should save up and get her a room at the Brunel.”
Junie thought about it.
Mumsy at my house in Academy. Malus’s mother at the Brunel.
She put down her toast. “Emerson, how is Wheatstone this time of year?”
Well done to Mr Mornington and good show Mr Lighthouse!
I hope you enjoy your game of chess in the underground chess club. ^_^
