Since I’m not traveling this summer I decided to create some aspects of the crosscountry roadtrip high in the outofthemeosphere of Babbage.
See:
- The World’s Largest Kaleidoscope!
- The Fork Truck Spindle!
- The Two-Headed Animals!
- The Petrified Noob! “Amazing dicovery or hoax?”

o. m. g.
can we dip dr. dinosaur in stucco and spray paint our names on him?
Yes, yes, yes! :)
Brilliant!
No.
Wait!
I’ve had an even better idea!!
We dredge him in corn meal batter, deep fry him, and serve him up on a stick!
After all, what tacky roadside attraction doesn’t serve up something deep fried that no sane man would eat?
Done, done, and done.
Thanks for the ideas, and thank you Sky for the t-shirt. :) The shirt and Raptor onna Stick are available here now.
Now what you need is Victor to film in and do a voice-over in his best Billy Connolly impersonation :-)
I visited there. was great :)
so when will the t-shirts be available?
“I visited the outofthemeosphere of Babbage and all I got was this lousy T-Shirt”
This whole thing is crying out for a family snapshot with a (steampunk) station wagon in the background.
That’s right. I went there.
It’s National Lampoon’s Babbage Vacation! Starring Emerson Lighthouse as Clark Griswold!
This will make a fortune. It’s a license to print money, I tell you!
LOL…hey!
*considers a road trip with Mumsy, Malus and Gil, and starts practicing her Ellen Griswold*
So, Junie, which one of those stalwarts are you casting in the role of Audrey Griswold? And I’m shuddering at the thought of Mumsy reprising Christie Brinkley’s role.
My compliments, Miss Ying! Puts me in mind of my Typist’s adventures as a child, traveling in an internal combustion conveyance, sans atmospheric cooling mechanism, a burlap bag of water slung in front of the temperature exchange system at the front of the vehicle, crossing the desert to the West Coast to visit relatives in San Francisco and San Diego, and all the odd and wonderful roadside attractions, colloquially known as “tourist traps”.
Ah, dear memories!
and some of those tumbleweeds roadside historical markers. and a tacky tepee motel.
I had a very, very good day today. behold the wonders!
the worlds most artistic public restroom. there is a mosaic made of matchbox cars in the loo.

populist political art bemoaning the grip of trusts on the laborer, done in that cutting edge newfangled material for 1902… concrete! and then he left embalming instructions so he could be a tourist attraction forever

and Erika, who loves this stuff even more than I do, if that is even possible. we spent a good hour comparing notes on where we’ve been, and both came away with a whole bunch of new stuff on our lists. She gave me a poster that I will cherish.

and the worlds largest van gogh.

I just might have to hit the ball of string on the way back.
Don’t hit it too hard, it might roll off the pedestal and land on you… THEN where would we be!
Notice: the roadside attractions will remain in place through the the coming weekend (September 15/16) and will then poof for the season. I’ll be thinking about what to put in its place. The park on the ground will remain as is.
And Nathaniel is right. Do not thump the dinosaur. If if falls on you (that applies to the soft drink machine also) the management will not be responsible. But if you must, stop by the gift shop first.
Just because you play that song for me, Mr. Pearse. And there werea brother and sister there in the middle of the night with me, but heading the other direction, that had seen the biggest ball of paint in Indiana earlier that day, so it ain’t just me….
and so another summer ends.
Thanks for the fantastic build, Kimika!
