I attended the Poetry Slam at der Hut in Winterfell this
evening. I was happy to see a familiar
Babbage face, Ms. Heinrichs in attendance (and apparently a regular).
The theme was Autumn (or something close to that). We took turns reciting poems and haikus –
some original, some written by others.
The BEST part is that when people are done reciting what
they have you get to throw things at them!
I was armed with my cuppy cake shooter.
It was a BLAST!!!
I deninitley will make this a regular activity to
attend. I am hoping to find out the
theme for next week in advance so that I can write something original for it.
Here are the poems I recited this evening:
Autumn Fires
by Robert Louis Stevenson
In the other gardens
And all up the vale,
From the autumn bonfires
See the smoke trail!
Pleasant summer over
And all the summer flowers,
The red fire blazes,
The grey smoke towers.
Sing a song of seasons!
Something bright in all!
Flowers in the summer,
Fires in the fall!
and
September
by Helen Hunt
The goldenrod is yellow;
The corn is turning brown;
The trees in apple orchards
With fruit are bending down.
The gentian’s bluest fringes
Are curling in the sun;
In dusky pods the milkweed
Its hidden silk has spun.
The sedges flaunt their harvest
In every meadow-nook;
And asters by the brookside
Make asters in the brook.
From dewy lanes at morning
The grapes’ sweet odors rise;
At noon the roads all flutter
With yellow butterflies.
By all these lovely tokens
September days are here,
With summer’s best of weather,
And autumn’s best of cheer.
Boss has a Ducky Blunderbuss he might loan me!
