((OOC: How to add people on the Non-Ning))

So it’s come to my attentions ((After days of having friend requests unaccepted)) that some people don’t know even how to do such a task, let alone WHERE to begin. So here’s my tiny bit of community service.

To add a friend, start off on your homepage, go to the very top and click on “Community”.

Once there you get a sequence of tabs:

Friends: Which shows you who has been accepted. Simple enough.

Sent: Which shows who you have been able to find and send request.

Recieved: Where you accept your friend request.

Following: Who you are stalking…er…keeping an eye on.

Followers: Who’s providing you the same favor.

There, all pretty simple and easy no? Possibly not if you don’t get notifcations in your e-mails. Let’s turn those on shall we?

Once again to your homepage, click Edit, scroll down and read the section to decide what sort of “notifications” that suite your needs.

Va-la! You are fin…

This is rather simple, but for those new to the site, or who haven’t really dived into it’s workings, I thought it mildly helpfully. -pushes her fingers together without them touching- Mildly.

Until then…

Spread the love

Thank you Bianca! Very helpful. And now, if someone would just offer the smallest explanation of all the other functions and features of this system!  For example, how one goes about entering themselves in the Citizens’ roster, and where the information therein might be edited…  What the difference is betwixt “page” and “blog”, and where information entered therein is likely to be found, and by whom seen…  and I’m sure a thousand other questions for which the solutions might seem simple in hindsight.

I suppose, in considering this, it might be useful of me to post a billet of request for such information out upon the public bulletins, where it might find some reasonable response.

I’ll just go do that now, shan’t I?

Feel free to drop me a line.  Jed (the old mod)

I still have outstanding friend requests dating back 33 weeks for some people.

Maybe they just don’t like me :-)

Perish the thought- who could fail to like you, but one who doesn’t know how?

XD I know HOW, I just never get notices and forget to check em now and then unless someone nudges me.

    • Edward Pearse Edward Pearse April 1, 2011

It doesn’t send a notice, so you haven’t missed them :-)

Maybe that’s something that needs to be added.

lol I know. That’s part of the problem. And it would be appreciated if they could find a way to add it. For messages as well. When I was cut off from the internet for nearly a month I had only my phone to check the notning on. I tried sending messages to a couple people on here in desperation for some contact with the inside world of New Babbage, but I don’t know if they ever even got them.

The Citizens section is made up of those with something entered in the “Personal Information” section of their Page.

As for the rest, one must remember that it was designed through improvisation, guesswork, retrofits, completely opaque black boxes grafted on without the slightest knowledge of how they work, aesthetic embellishments that serve no practical purpose, and additions made during fits of late-night boozy brilliance that leave no memory the next day, nor any rational explanation how or why it works the way it does. That it works at all is a wonder, its stability a mystery, and any attempt to improve it is as likely to destroy it as make any difference.

In short, then, it’s a textbook example of New Babbage engineering. Deserving of equal parts quiet respect and impenetrable loathing.

*laugh*  That is a perfectly wonderful explanation!

      :D

It is the very essence of Steampunkishness!

Nevertheless, I must needs endeavor to excavate its mysteries entirely, or to “suffer” beneath  a perpetual perplexion. To face such an unfathomable challenge will be no terrible hardship, I suspect.

Bravo Mr. Cleanslate, and how your loathing and work is appreciated, though we can always desire more when something is already done rather well, can’t we?

I would expect nothing less, Miss Namori. I myself have a long, LONG list of them. As is true with any device, it’s builder always sees its flaws in great detail and would be the first to junk it and start over.
