When flying an airship (especially the high prim ones) please make a note to two very imporant issues…
1: Flying an airship over someone elses plot of land means your big airship with loads of prims counts towards that persons land.
2: Flying over said persons plot of land and then going AFK means your airship is basically parked over someone elses plot of land and that persons plot of land has went over said prim limit.
I just had a chunk of my lab returned to me cause someone flew their airship right over my plot…and then decided to go AFK.
This is the second time this has happened. I’ve now switched OFF object entry on the lab in clockhaven…sorry, but days worth of work being returned cause folks thinks its ok to go AFK parked over someone else land doesnt sit too well with me.
Why was your lab returned? How did the presence of the airship (however impolite) cause it to be returned?
I ask, because personally, I’ve never run into this issue. I’ve had people park large prim things on my land that caused *me* to be unable to rez things until I’d returned it to them, but I’ve never had it force my own items to be returned.
If an object flies over a parcel and it goes over the spare prim left it causes the sim to return the last rezzed items on the parcel.
Try it sometime on a parcel you own, fly over it in a high prim airship and then look at land management, it will say something like “51 Prims Will Be Deleted” where it usually says how many prims are spare…
Really? Now I am wondering if it is safe to fly my new airship.
If I understand Victor right, the problem appears only when someone goes afk in his airship?
Normally an autoreturn should help and save your land.
So maybe autoreturn doesn’t work, if someone sits on the object, that should be returned?
I believe Zaida said that she had part of her cathedral returned mysteriously a few days ago, perhaps that mystery is now solved.
That’s likely, yes. It’s one of the main reasons I don’t use vehicles. Sometimes, in border crossings, I’ll get seperated from the vehicle and it’ll end up who knows where. I’ve had a couple returned to me hours or even a day afterwards. It’s just not worth the irritation to myself or the one whose property it ended up on.
The Lindens say they are going to work on border crossings. I hope so.
may have to have on autoreturn, I had to set mine for awhile when I kept having Tennant look-alikes leave tardisses (tardi? tardisi?) all over my plot.
I usually try and leave about 35-40 prims free in case of airships myself personally, but i’m not sure if you’d have that much to spare
autoreturn is your friend. we’re coming into busy season, use it.
This is how 1/3 of the hospital got returned to me. Fortunately it was in my lost and found as a single chunk.
If I group and lock my prims, will that help them from being derezzed, or will it cause more damage as huge sections get ripped out at once?
has something changed in how the grid deals with vehicles? it used to be that you would be denied entry to a parcel if your ship was large enough to prim it out?
last I knew, it was just a denied entry, but with the way I’ve been lagging lately, I haven’t done any flyby Babbage trips in awhile, it might have changed
the problem is with vehicles over the 30 prim ‘normal’ limit. I found that if you try to fly over some parcels, you’ll get bounced.
There are a few folks with these high prim tricky airships, and they play hell with parcels. I recall this being an issue once pon a time with folks leaving huge phantom prim airships all over.
And even if it isn’t denied entry, shouldn’t it return the airship before any prims on the ground?
Is it that the airship was already on the plot and then you placed your prims without realising, so as it was there first and it was your prims that went over the plots prim allowance, they got returned rather than the airship ?
I knew there were 100+ prim airships, that need multimovers to work and basically are more a collection of unlinked airship sections, but usually my experience with those is half te airship just gets returned to you and the other half you’re in bounces away.
they kind of look terrible when they fly too
I don’t have experience with the Over the 30 prim limit vehicles, but I have my airship set to “temporary” so that it doesn’t count against the prim limits of the parcels I’m flying over. That’s also very useful for when I become unseated by bad crossings – I don’t have to go in search of my aircraft.
Unfortunately this is no help if your vehicle can’t be modified.
