We have witnessed their Scaramouche performing for an empty cathedral. His command of the instrument is remarkable, but what a fool! He sits with his back to an open door and is oblivious to our presence!

Very nice image, with just the right hint of tension.
To finally have heard the great Scaramouche! I never imagined the instrument he carries would make such music. It is written that he is vain and a coward. Perhaps we should take care not to scare him so we may enjoy his playing.
So little to buoy my flailing spirits. To what depths of disquieting darkness have I fallen. And yet even in my lowest moment of despair music has the power to instill a sense of hope; it is a brief and welcome surcease of anguish that this Scaramouche provides. I whisper these words to you, dearest Spurgan, as you lie weakened an unresponsive upon our bed, held in the warmth of my body. Can you feel me? Can you hear my words? Can you understand my promise to seek justice for what sister has done to us?
