One Small Step For Man .. One Giant Leap for Man Kind !!
“We are heartbroken to share the news that Neil Armstrong has passed away following complications resulting from cardiovascular procedures.
Neil was our loving husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend.
For those who may ask what they can do to honor Neil, we have a simple request. Honor his example of service, accomplishment and modesty, and the next time you walk outside on a clear night and see the moon smiling down at you, think of Neil Armstrong and give him a wink.”
I am speachless tonight, Neil Armstrong was a true hero of the world.
One of my heroes. I am heartbroken.
I was stunned to hear the news. We no longer share the world with the first man to walk on the moon.
I looked up the list of people who have walked on the moon and it struck me that all of them were born in the 1930s. Such a different world.
It really *was* a different time. It is sad to think that in just a few years there may be nobody left on earth with a first hand memory of walking on another world.
Bite your tongue! I will be here for EONS longer!
I thought that was supposed to be a seekrit. ;-)
That puts me in mind of a quote occasionally attributed to Walter Cronkite: “I always knew that I’d see the first man on the moon. I never dreamed that I would see the last.”
I told my five-year old daughter over breakfast this morning: Once upon a time, people walked on the moon.
When I was a wee one, I looked up to Neil as a hero, and I admit I had a crush on his friendly, unassuming good looks.
Neil was one of us. Just a guy. A nerdy guy who loved all the stuff our dreams are made of, and got lucky enough to go live them out on our behalf.
That one small step? He took it for us and didn’t ask for anything in return.
Thanks for everything, Neil, and you are missed already.
Hail and farewell to a man who was the living example of “the Right Stuff.”
To Neil Armstrong, who snatched victory from the jaws of disaster and brought the Lunar Module in under manual control when the computer freaked out. (Not just the first man on the moon, but the first one to pull a “manual override.”)

And a couple of quotes:
“It suddenly struck me that that tiny pea, pretty and blue, was the Earth. I put up my thumb and shut one eye, and my thumb blotted out the planet Earth. I didn’t feel like a giant. I felt very, very small.”
“I am, and ever will be, a white socks, pocket protector, nerdy engineer, and I take a substantial amount of pride in the accomplishments of my profession.”
– Neil Armstrong
I saw a headline that said it all for me: One Giant Loss for Mankind.
was trying to find an article I was reading about how long his footprint will last up there, essentially it’ll be up there a pretty long time
