A few days have passed, and there are no signs of any further traps. Perhaps the Big One has give up? I certainly hope so–I don’t want any more of us sacrificed to whatever he is doing.
Tonight was warmer than we’ve seen in a long time, and I felt relaxed enough to join another of the Folk in a night of mischief.
We annoyed–and were annoyed by–a talkative bird:
We chased some large rats–very fast things, no wonder they hadn’t been caught before, even in this hard winter. We were also chased by a dog, but we…convinced him to go elsewhere. (All right–he got bored and wandered away when he couldn’t reach our perch on the wall.) Then an even stranger creature found us–it seemed part-bird, part-lizard:
I tried to jump on it, but fell off, and it chased me. So I finally led it into one of the large M’an-nests. Let the Big Ones deal with it!
In back of the big M’an-nest, I found my companion in a garden, with a bowl of cream. A good way to end the evening.
