Contractors, captains of industry, and concerned citizens gathered on the steps of City Hall to petition the mayor to get some things fixed.
Oiling Festival this year will have “general” and “assigned” builds. General means anyone can participate, contest style. Assigned means just that, the project has been assigned to someone because it needs to get done.
All builds should be ready to land by Easter weekend.
Here’s what was decided needed working on this year:

AETHER SALON
sponsor: Baron Klaus
Builder: Edward Pearse
Alternate: Sophie
Time has taken its toll on the Aether Salon and the scripts are no longer functional, and its builder sleeps amongst our honored dead. This will be the 3rd incarnation of the Aether Salon. The build straddles a sim line so that it can accommodate more avatars for special events. The lot is two 512 lots side by side, making one 1024 square lot (32×32) with a sidewalk easement. Prim allowance for the lot is 312 on the Palisade side and 468 on the Academy side. The lots will not share prims. What is physical in one sim is phantom in the other, making it an interesting puzzle. Keep in mind that the Salon staff would like to have prims left over for furnishings and snacks, and Mr Tenk is notorious for burning through the prims to make sets for his presentations.

Both Sophie Cloud and Edward Pearse had active builds going up on the platform. They were both good builds, Sophie’s was a little friendlier for the presenter with a larger stage, Edward’s a little more interesting for the audience with balconies that looked down on a small stage. I picked Sophie’s because I like room to build when it’s my turn to present the salon. We had some fun landing the thing as it did not take the split sim lot into account, but she got it down in time for the next salon. Congrats!

R.F. BURTON PUBLIC LIBRARY
sponsor: Serafina Puchkina
Builder: Sophie
City Librarian Serafina Puchkina would like to rebuild the RF Burton Public Library. It was originally a “crackerbox” build from the early days of SL by Canolli Capalini, and it has weathered at least one previous rebuild. It’s a good old pile of bricks, but it is too big, too primmy, and with that unused 3rd floor, it’s seriously showing its age.
Budget is no more than 300 prims. It should fit in with Babbage look. 3 floors are way too many. Ms P would like to see some new quirky features, but don’t reproduce what is there now. Do something new. (extant quirky features would be the secret room, the reading tree, and the pendulum)

Sophie Cloud came through with a lovely new library, and just in time! The sidewalks around the old building had been barricaded so no one would get hit by the tumbling gargoyles.

STORA CANAL MONORAIL CAR
sponsor: N.B.T.A
The monorail build last year by Kimika Ying needs a car to complete it. It must fit over the bridges, under the train tracks, and cross one sim line. Contact Toshiro Tigerauge about the existing script, or script your own. Physical car solutions are unacceptable due to the strain it puts on the server. Final car with script should come in under 50 land impact.

BRIDGE
sponsor: Mr Tenk
The bridge over Stora Canal near the Exhibit hall was eaten by the Bridge of Thighs. We were not previously aware of this behavior, but it appears to be so. Citizens cannot get to the hospital in a timely manner until the bridge is replaced, or without a piggy back ride from Springheel Jack. The bridge must allow clearance for the water taxi, look at extant bridges for reference.

I’m giving this one to Sophie as she did provide a simple wood bridge. This one also goes under the monorail tracks, which might get interesting once a car goes into service.

BOW STREET STATION TOWER CLOCK
sponsor: Mr Tenk
The clock at Bow Street Station has not worked in years. This was an RFL build, and it does have an accurate movement, as a clockmaker was consulted on the building of it.
-get the clock hands working
-get the chime-wheel dancers working again. The figures look dated, so you are welcome to make new ones.
-Bonus if you can replicate or create a new winding event
-FFS keep it simple. History tells me this might be a difficult request for the scripting mindset. Henry doesn’t have time to keep nudging the thing every time the sim restarts, and he’s not that smart.

No takers. If someone handy with scripts wants to tackle this one, let me know. That clock has been stuck for a while. I believe the problem was that it needed a manual reset every time the sim restarted?

Tepic takes the purse with his sturdy plague hood of stiched leather with an iron and glass faceplate. It supplies perfect protection from all airborne diseases, though he did note that it may need a separate air supply. If the disease don’t kill you, the cure will?

2D STORYTELLING CHALLENGE: HORRIBLE HISTORIES
sponsor: Mr Underby
For the 2D entry, show us a scene from our forgotten history. Something disreputable that was probably better off forgotten. Don’t forget the ‘splainer plaque.
Rez on the walls or easels in the front room of the Exhibit Hall, south side.
(For those that don’t know, the reason we don’t know our history is because the archives keep getting destroyed by fires and other disasters)

RUTHORFORD SQUARE MILITIA POST
sponsor: Mr Tenk
There’s a big hole in the rampart wall where a facade for a militia post should be. At least, I think that’s what that hole is. Is it?
