I loved the forging of the Olympic rings, very steampunk!

The cauldron is wonderful, made of hundreds of copper petals that moved together!

Generally the event was as mad as a bag of happy weasels, which was just perfect! Yay!

    Oh and Tim Berners-Lee! Yay!

I associate with your enthusiasm, Lady Carver, for the first Olympic Games’ Opening Ceremony Steampunk :-)

Anyway, I join with your cheers and although I do not say «God save the Queen (Victoria? I assure you that for some weeks, the Union Jack waving on the flagpole in my garden.

    Hip Hip Hor-ray ! :-)

Yup, the Industrial Age and the Forging of the Ring were the best parts.  They could have played “Take This Waltz” as the soundtrack.
