Bar Wars: Just a bit of fun…

Junie watched helplessly as three coins slipped silently from her pocket and fell to the cobblestones below.  The tinkling of loose change would bring urchins running at any other time of day, but at this hour and in this neighborhood she knew the odds were against it. Following a quick double-check of the tools hanging from her belt, she tightened the rope around her fist and hoisted herself up the final few feet onto the roof of the Brunel.

She had waited patiently most of the night, watching from Ruthorford House in Academy until she saw Victor walking home from the hotel, and then until the light in his window dimmed. It had seemed that he would never sleep, but finally her chance had arrived.

Now that she was on the roof, she kneeled to pull off her knapsack and gloves, then rummaged around in the bag until she found The Item.  Smiling, she evaluated her next move.

It wasn’t without near-misses or unplanned hitches, but finally she was able to execute her plan.  With the stealth and grace of a Melnik (she fancied), she made her way back the location of her ascent and shimmied down the rope. After arriving back at her house a block away, she settled into bed with a grin, knowing that in the morning she’d be able to hear him cursing all the way across Academy Downs.

Emerson sat at the bar in The Gangplank reading the latest stories of mechanical raptors and local bar vandalism. Malus shuffled about nervously, looking as though he hadn’t slept in days.

“Where’s the missus Ginsburg?” asked Bert as he helped himself to a mug of coffee.

“I’m not sure.” replied Emerson. “She said she had a little project to attend to last night.” he took a sip of coffee and turned the page of his paper. “I’m sure she’s up to something.”

Mornington walked back from a short rest in his home at the far side of Academy.  As he walked under the usual two flags on the outside he kept thinking to himself that something has happened.

For a whole hour, as urchins ran past giggling when they passed the front of the hotel it annoyed him.

“I’m overlooking the obvious again aint i…” he thought to himself as he walked outside and looked at the front of the hotel.

    “Nope, same old grafitti…”

    …and then he looked up….

Reports from several wide eyed urchins said that they had never heard Mr Mornington string so many curse words into one sentence before.

“Thats the flag i seen infront of the gangplank that is…”

    Mornington said to himself…

“Couldnt have been emerson, he’s too lazy to climb up there…which means…nooo, it cant be, little Junie?”

“With the stealth and grace of a Melnik” *Scottie grins as his Mr. Ego tag is politely polished by Junie*
