Announcement to All Businesses and Shippers

As of this date, the Port of New Babbage is open for business. For too long the petty ambitions of powerful MEN have been allowed to run amok in the city. Rather than see my fellow citizens either being starved or forced to pay extortion to receive goods by ship, I have taken control of the docks and brought in dock workers who will provide the services our businesses have become accustomed to.

The normal delivery of goods anywhere within the city will commence shortly. The porters will have escorts, to ensure that no one from any party will delay or impede the orderly flow of goods to and from the port.

Mornington looks at the short letter…

“So… the strike has been broken has it?”

Old Tupplesworth, the striking foreman of Port Babbage looked on worriedly realising that the Independence of Academy relied on the cornerstone of the Port Strike continuing.  With the port opened up it left Academy in an impossible position.

“Tupplesworth, call a meeting of the business owners association…i have an idea…”

So I guess you’ll be renaming Brunel Hall to Tammany Hall, and you’ll be going by “Boss” Mornington? Perhaps requiring the businesses to sell their souls to you for 5%?

((History time! http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tammany_Hall outlines the political machine that ran New York City during the RL era…))

“Madame Commodore! Madame Commodore! A word?!?”

The dark man flailed his arm aloft, attempting to gain Dagger’s attention as she glided up the gangplank to her flagship. She give no indication that she had heard him through the crowd of citizens and press. He gave an almost futile shove at the line of New Babbage Marines holding the masses at bay and shouted again.

“COMMODORE DAGGER! A QUESTION…? FOR THE SNITCH?”

The Commodore paused the breadth a moment, casting a sidewise glance from her perch. It was all the opening he needed.

“Uh…’The Reporter’, Canal Street Snitch….Ah..ah..any truth to the rumor that you will employ your marines to wrest control of the city from the many ‘pretenders-to-the-Mace’ until the Clockwinder returns?”

Rare as this is, I fully agree with Dagger.

    *Reads: “stupid boys…swagger….taking control”.

*Pens a note to Mornington offering his support on principle.

They’ve drawn lines gentlemen. Let the records show that the dividing of the people does not rest with us.
