A Forgotten Document

“What’s this?” Emerson  asked as he approached the bar with his coffee and looked for enough space to work on his morning crossword. He picked up an old faded poster advertising an event that based upon the the condition of the paper was likely decades past.

“Found it at that last table over there when I opened the bar this morning,” Bert replied. “Someone must have forgot it. Looks like something that belongs in the archives or museum.”

”I think I know who it belongs to,” said Emerson. “Been a guy in here the last week or so. Sits at that back table writing all the time.”

“I know who you mean,” Bert nodded. “Quiet gent, wears a hat,  takes his coffee with a double shot of rum and rarely looks up from whatever it is he’s writing.”

“That’s the guy,” Emerson nodded, He turned over the brittle sheet and noticed a handwritten note scrawled across the back:

Relevance to timeline leading up to Great Fire?

“Curious,” said Emerson looking at the note. He then casually folded the poster,  laid it on the bar and placed his coffee mug atop it. “People should really be more careful with where they leave things.”
