To the concerned citizens of New Babbage:
I have just received a cable from an associate in Caledon concerning Mr. William DaFew.
DaFew, as some of you may recognize, was recently murdered in Pennyfeather Park, and young Skyler Gant is responsible for that crime.
William DaFew, it would seem, was a man who outwardly appeared to be a man of good character. In truth, he was a monster. He was the co-owner and chief operator of a large orphanage in Caledon. His orphanage receives considerable financial support from the government of Caledon, and the orphanage is the permanent home for many children who are wards of the state.
Rumors have been circulating for some time about abuse at the orphanage. My associate in Caledon is involved in investigating such rumors, and it would appear that indeed William DaFew was a ruthless taskmaster who demanded that those children in his charge work long and hard. The children received none of the benefits of their labor, but rather all the proceeds from their efforts went to the coffers of the orphanage, or into DaFew’s pocket.
DaFew was vicious with those in his charge who failed to work, or otherwise misbehaved. There are many reports of beatings, starvation, and on locking the child in a cupboard as punishment.
I know this is shocking, but far worse would sometimes occur. Two bodies have been recovered from shallow graves on the orphanage grounds, and the medical evidence shows that they were beaten to death. In short, DaFew was a killer himself.
In light of these discoveries, my associate in Caledon assures me that the orphanage is now under state management and that the remaining wards will be well cared for.
I realize that young Sklyer Gant was a resident of this orphanage, and that he may have also suffered at the hands of William DaFew. I’m sure that his unfortunate experience will be taken into consideration during sentencing.

I don’t think Skylar did it at all. He’s just not the sorta person who’d do that sorta thing *shakes head* most definatly not

Errr…. don’t ya have to have a trial before thinking bout sentencing? and if Skyler is taken to trial, don’t he have to be tried by a jury of his peers – cus that’s us, the other urchins in New Babbage, ain’t it?

Seems to me that the Witchfinder General here has already made up his mind, judge, jury and prosecutor all in one are ya?
If thats the case then young Skyler Gant if he is seen wandering around the streets of new babbage is more than welcome to stay in my home in Clockhaven under the safe harbor ruling.
