The Independent State of Caledon is a collection of about 50 sims founded in February 2006 by tulip speculator Desmond Shang. Legend has it that the neo-victorian ethic embraced by the 19th century grid was a response to the casino and strip-club culture of the Mainland in the Grid’s early years. Whatever the source, a surprising number of avatars donned ultra-modest victorian clothing, faded their tans, and followed Guv’nah Shang to Caledon, which grew at a phenomenal rate. Founding members include Shaunathan Sprocket, Jefferson Gould, Ordinal Malaprop, and Khashai Steinbeck.
Caledon is a small, windswept forested country at a temperate latitude. Wild creatures, country estate life, sights and sounds that were common well over 100 years ago are the hallmark of the land. The government is an expansionist monarchy, supported by a strong aristocracy (i.e., residents). As Caledon has grown, it has made contact with a number of other nations that share many of her values. Some of these nations are part of the land mass known as the [[Realm of the Roses]], originally formed when Caledon linked to its northern neighbor Winterfell.
Caledon is a major source of cavorite.
