what’s on your desk?

you know all those times you find tenk standing in the street doing nothing and he won’t answer his im’s?

this is why–

maggie's clock disassembled.

it’s usually what’s between me and the keyboard.

what’s on your desk?

Spread the love

Paper, books, stationary (yes, for writing real, handwritten letters in cursive script *gasp*), stamps (postage and rubber), ink pads, bottles of ink, odds and ends my little people have left and my laptop.

errrr…… everything? It’s my grandmother’s old desk in beautiful old wood with brass handles, and of course there is my keyboard and monitor on one corner, with my computer use glasses, many, many usb sticks, and old tape of Ken Dodd songs, two bookmarks showing the Periodic Table (new version, not the one i remember…). Then there is the most untidy desk-tidy in the world, with an eco-systyem of it’s own, a Tagalog phrasebook, various iPods, music players and a hand-held wifi detector, old receipts, assorted chocolates, computer manuals and software current to my pc, a notebook (paper), a pile of papers which might be important or need dealing with, some blank cds and dvds, a belt pouch tool kit, a torch that needs mending and a mug of coffee. This is only a quick glance list, the full one would need several volumes, and we haven’t even started on the drawer contents yet……  Basically, if needed, everything is within easy reach..

Oh! yes, the Salvation Army double cd of Christmas music!

*looks at what’s in the Clockwinder’s mug*

You know I think that might start to explain some of your problems…

I suspect whatever is in that mug involves the worlds “industrial” and possibly “solvant.”

My phone, some bills, and a squeezy stress ball shaped like a carrot.

A desktop computer, various books and papers, several different small games with easy to teach rules. But the big ticket item is what started out as a origami crane on top of my monitor, but has had items attached to it by my students until it has turned into a large one-eyed monster with wings and tendrils and all manner of parts…

Alas, I never recorded its likeness. Things one takes for granted in their classrooms…

My computer, speakers, keyboard, and trackball.

A couple of expansion cards. (a graphics card and a sound card)

A couple of hard disks, several CDs and DVDs.

Four AA batteries. and the camera they are used in.

    A partially dissassembled radio.

A couple eggs of burlington. (I could not find an orb of thessula so these were pressed into service)

    Several candles.

    My comp tool kit.

    Several memory cards.

    A rubber ball.

Some doodling paper and mechanical pencils.

    My weather station display.

A large red humanoid frog. (A Slaadi that DeVy got me at a con in Pitt.)

    A small roll of Cat5.

A can of 3-in-1 oil. (good for noisy fans)

    A small soldering gun.

This is not my office desk, it’s in the workshop and is used mostly for various home and comp-related projects.

I was banished here for having left a disemboweled computer strewn about the dining room once too often. :-P

A variety of fascinating mechanical devices, pliers and screwdrivers of various types, an unabridged set of Feynman’s Lectures on Physics, an invitation to lunch at the White House, several large checks awaiting deposit, assorted journalism and design awards.

Or perhaps just tons of junk…

    (Yes, that’s a 14-year-old Mac PowerBook… yes, it works… yes, it’s running System 9… no, it’s not how I access SL.)

If only my desk were so beautifully old fashioned as your’s. I’ve got a corner thing that gives me plenty of space and almost plenty of shelves, but blastedly modern. Aside from my desktop and laptop computers and tray with desk ammenities such as pens, I’ve got a hermit crab in a little tank by my side, various figures and a stuffed tiger with huge eyes, one shelf box set up as a twisted wonderland with warped chessboard floor and walls and mushroom statues abounding and a fox skull with doll eyes set in it. Up top much more mushroom figures and on the other side a sofa for my dolls along with an end table with a doll sized lamp and floor lamp proper sized for them as well. Currently Scald is sitting up there in his christmas sweater next to a skeleton still lazing about since halloween. I’ve also got a metal rose and peacock feather along with japanese prayer beads in a pipe and flange that serves as a vase for it, various blank doll heads I work on and drawers full of related supplies such as files, chisels, eyeshadow, inks, brushes, etc. And erm.. My Little Ponies..

On my old desk at the apt, I had my computer, two fans to keep it from overheating and my cup o pen… plus various junk. Now that we’ve moved, my desk is a corner nook with my laptop, a cooling pad that I got for Xmas, and my mom’s paints and painting books. And as soon as I can afford a frame, my pirate character’s pic will be up above it on the wall. lol..

As soon as we get a place where I can get a bigger desk, I will have more junk on it.*chuckles* Promise. ^^
