Book lovers were thrilled when this tall cylindrical library of brass and glass was raised on the NW corner of City Hall block, but a a trip to the basement told a darker story. The Atheneaum was a factory run by the Steamweaver Company to process books into card format, then dispose of the books by burning them in a basement incinerator.
