Naturally, I investigated. Frankly, I don’t get it myself, but then, I ain’t Einstein. :)

Many languages employ intonational variation to distinguish otherwise identical words. Therefore, ‘What‘ and ‘What?‘ are technically two different names – though I concede a touch confusing. Perhaps ‘Yum’ and ‘YUM!‘ would be a better example of an intonational distinction.

Wouldn’t that have made them Mr. U and Dr. O?
After all, if the name is Mr. O, then it is obviously a reference to someone who doesn’t have a professional standing to maintain. Perhaps some well known man of letters. Or possibly a famous photojournalist of questionable skill.
Now who could that be?

i’ve decided that the owner of the bar that has collected the most in their kiosk will be the one to have the honor of naming the giant slug. currently, that means either Capt. Lupindo for Ahab’s, or Junie Ginsburg for the Gangplank. I will check the kiosks tomorrow.

July 14, 2013
it has come to my attention that Ahab’s and the Gangplank are currently tied for first.

July 15, 2013
If the tie had been maintained, we could have named them after the proprietors of these fine establishments.
I rather like the idea of the slugs being named Ahab and Emmerson.
