Sovereign House – January 28th: 1pm
Mornington sat back in Sovereign House with Mr Biggleswade, Mr Forsythe, Mr Lemmington and Mr Tupplesworth, it was the first time all 4 of the main dock worker foremen had sat down together since the last dockers meeting a year ago.
“It’s amazing just how tenacious Underby’s hold is on this city” remarked Tupplesworth as they all sipped down some Ravila Black.
“Yes, those dang night watch crew, shoot first ask question later with that lot” answered old Biggleswade.
“Both clockhaven and Port’s docks are out of service, Mr Tosh put the NBTA on strike, the Water Pump station closed down 3 days ago and even the clockworks in that power station in Clockhaven have joined… yet old Underby still clings on…gotta hand it to him, he doesnt give up…” chuckled Lemmington…
“Yeah!” slurred Mr Forsythe who was obviously getting drunk “Ee’s jus like dat ol’ Bolenesky”
“Who?”
“Ya know… Doctur Bolognese”
“Ohhhhhhhhhhhhhh Doctor Obolensy!”
All 4 of the port foremen started laughing and toasted to the memory of the Late Doctor, just as they toasted Mornington sprang out of his chair and shouted “THATS IT! Obolensky!” and ran out of the house. The 3 sober Port Foremen followed Vic straight to City Hall and the Department of Land Holdings.
City Hall, The Department of Land Holding – January 28th, 1:16pm
Mr Edward Pendergast was a tired old man, he had been looking after the Department of Land Holdings in City Hall for as long as anyone could remember. However he always smiled when Mr Mornington arrived.
“Ahhhhhhhhhh! Master Mornington! Pleasure to see you in my little office, what can i do for you today, needing more land in Clockhaven for that new swishy Art Gallery of yours?”
Mornington smiled… “Ohhhhhhh nothing like that Mr Pendergast…it more of an enquiry, and a shuffling of land deeds” Mornington grinned as Edwards face lit up at the mention of land deed shuffling.
“First of all Mr Pendergast, how much land do i actually own in the Academy District percentage wise, including the municipal land against that percentage?”
The port boys stood there wondering what Mornington was up to as they watched old Edward bring out his aged 5ft long 6 tier abacus and start to move whole sections of little balls back and forth. It was a good 3 minutes before old Edward answered…
“25 percent of the entire land holding of the Academy District Mr Mornington, the gentlemans agreed land purchase maximum”
Mornington grinned, took one of old Edwards peices of paper, scribbled a few lines down on it and then signed it, he then held it over to Edward who then burst out laughing and said “Old baldy upstairs aint gonna like this!”
Mornington simply nodded and chuckled.
Edward gave Mornington two official peices of paper with the land holding officer signatures on them, Mornington thanked Edward and walked out of the Land Holding office. As him and the port boys neared the front door the port boys walked towards it, but Mornington continued walking onwards, towards the Hall of Records.
As they all walked in they were met by Mr Dorchester who gave them all a nod and kept on with his work. Mornington strolled up to the 2 closed drawers containing the records of the Academy of Industry region, pulled them out, and started to walk towards the front door…only to be stopped by Mr Dorchester.
“What you think your doin Mornington! You know you cant remove city property like that without official permission from the acting Mayor!”
Mornington dropped the two heavy oak closed top drawers on the floor which then emitted two resounding deep bangs against the wood floor of City Hall and produced the two signed forms he just got from the Land Holding Office…Dorchesters jaw dropped.
“I refer you Mr Dorchester to the case of Obolenskydonia. Now as you know that loophole was sumarrily closed, but you, me and more especially that old bald cretin upstairs who has locked himself away in the towers knows that the 25% land holding rule is there…for a reason.”
By this point in time a small crowd had gathered at the entrance of City Hall Records…
“You can inform the ACTING Mayor Mr Underby, that i now have oficially transfered on a temporary basis all land deeds i have in Clockhaven and New Babbage districts. I now temporarilly own Builders Square and half of the land that the academy building is sitting on”
Mr Dorchester’s face started to turn white…
“This means that I am now well over the 25% ‘Gentlemans’ agreement, I refer you to the Obolenskydonia case, and to the founding clause of the Independant City State of New Babbage that no one shall hold more than a 25% share of land in one district…”
Dorchester’s face started to turn red as his patience started wearing thin due to Morningtons ramblings.
“Spit it out you goat legged FOOL!”
Mornington grinned, looked towards the port boys and to the group who was eavesdropping at the door.
“Mr Dorchester, please inform Acting Mayor Underby that the District of Academy of Industry is now 30% owned by one land owner. As such, i am declaring Academy of Industry an Independant township, free of the tyranny of the acting Mayors rule…”
With that, Mornington picked up the two drawers containing all the records of Academy, and strolled out the front door of City Hall.
The Border of Academy and Port – January 28th, 3:15pm
OOC: Obviously Academy isnt going to be owned by me.. im just pulling an obolensky since im one of the few who can ‘Technically’ get away with it cause i own a very big chunk of one region.
YAY! Free Candy for Victor for a month XD *starts boxing up all the candies he can get ahold of*
Jimmy chuckles, pumps his fist and starts humming tunes of revolution.
Rofl-heck yeah. I like it. “Up with the Academy. Down with Underby”
*wonders if there will be any new coffee taxes…*
It struck me as dusk fell once again that I have not heard anything regarding the position of the ladies of the night. I am curious to know whether they are prevented from carrying out their operations by the curfew, or are they perhaps on strike?
I wouldnt know, as Ive *never* met such a lady. But perhaps they should organise a union and protest!
recon the Blue Sparrow’s were most of em live now, an long as yer gents get there early enough, before curfew, they does special rates if yer want ter stay all night, so’s i hear, an they does a right good breakfast!
Ohh!! great now -I- can go there and disobey all laws as being a ‘official of another state’ , as is so in vouge right now.
happy days are here again!!
Yep, and you can get immediately shot at by the local law enforcers if you refuse to pay a bribe. It will be like a busmans holiday for you.
never trust a sim with a coffeehouse in it.
City Hall could use a coffee cart…
too bad there’s not a new city hall in the works, this plot would be a good lead up to a blow.
At this rate, we should convert everything to Mesh, have all the new buildings standing by, and blow up the entire city in one apocalyptic burst!
That’d show Underby. *grin*
Although the power station is still within New-Babbage, which limits the support I can offer, I have used my influence with the independent outpost of Lovelace.
As a result the Lovelace Institute of Aetheric Science & Engineering now recognises the independent township of Academy and Mayor Mornington as its rightful leader.
From this day on Lovelace will lend any support possible, including unlimited free use of the Lovelace portal generator to provide transportation.
On a more local level, expect to see a lot more clockwork bunnies keeping the new township clean.
*looks up from his morning paper and glances across the Gangplank’s bar at Bert*
Until the Squire gets back I may need you to help broker a freetrade deal with this new independent state of Victor’s.
*listens as she arranges freshly baked pies on the bar*
Perhaps my dual citizenship will help…
*grins and snaps fingers*
That’s right! Oh baby are we ever going to take advantage of some cross-border shopping!
I hear that milk is less expensive in Morningtown.
Yay Mr. Victor!!!!!! River says you her hero!!
So, basically, we pulled a Conch Republic sorta stunt. :D
It would be worth owning 30% of Port just so I could declare it Pimlico, and demand passports.
