So, the first meeting of the New Babbage Drinking and Writing society shall be on Sunday, February 21st at 3:00 SLT. Meetings will run 1-2 hrs depending on what we have going on.
Thereafter it shall occur every other Sunday.
I shall attempt to run it with a theme, to be announced ahead of time so we have something to chat about to get us all comfortable.
The theme for the 21st shall be: Getting Started. Come tell us how you start writing. Are you a seat-of-your-pants, inspiration-driven writer? Or do you take inspiration and carefully map out everything before you begin writing?
Come meet new people. Come cry with us. Come listen to Tenk and I mutter at eachother every time the novel needs a new chapter.
In-world group to come.
Hi! Sounds like fun! Where will it be held, pray tell?
Fun fun! An in-world group would be good for reminders. Not that writers need reminders, we are such level-headed organized folk by nature. *twitch*
Just need to know where to show up!
That’ll actually conflict with the AEther Salon, which runs from 2:00-3:00 SLT on the 3rd Sunday of every month.
Bleh! Really? Then I guess on aether salon days it’ll run from 3-5 or whatever.
For some reason I thought aether salon and book club happened on the same day.
Book Club tends to wander about a bit from month to month, we decide at each one when the next one will be.
I don’t think I’ll be able to make the Writing club and Aether Salon if the former is held at 3PM. Perhaps we could move the Writing club to the first Sunday of the month or something?

Writing society meetings will happen every other Sunday, so you can indeed attend the one on the first Sundsy of next month. After the first few meetings we will adjust the schedule to try and suit as best we can.
Meetings will be held at the Red Cat.
Is there a dress code for these fancy tête-à -têtes you’re planning? See, I been
dabbling in verse recently, odes mostly, but I have a few lyric love poems thrown
into the mix just to keep things interesting. I’d come down to the city for it but I’m worried with so many educated write-arses in one place it could get
a little snooty. You figure my Sunday coveralls is good enough? I got a shirt
to go under them.
Mr. O’Reatus, you are always welcome to our little gathering. You don’t even have to wear your Sunday coveralls.
Considering that at my recent Aether Salon on Publishing, I seem to have appeared without my skirts in the eyes of some of the attendees (And I have seen pictures to prove that; luckily my bloomers were stylish), I am not one to judge anyone’s clothing. Just bring your brain. If your brain is malfunctioning, bring a creatively-obtained working brain. See you there, Mister O’Reatus!
Okay, I’m smacking you townies down with some lyric poetry like they done in the oden days (see what I done there?). You ain’t going to get but one stanza. It’s what them that market stuff calls a teaser.
Ode to Nature
by Cleetus
Thou still untill’d field of tangled nettles,
Thou bastion of past and ample bounty,
The humble agricultural technician
Ponders whether to sow taters or lentils
That will then be shared around the county.
What dreams he as he pulls at root and vine?
What thoughts as he plows deep your earthy mounds?
Your heady, fecund scent as sweet as the wine
Of deities or mortals, or of both. 1
Now, you might be noticing that 1 at the end there. It was supposed to be superscripted but it came out too big. It’s to signal a footnote, which, for them that don’t know, is information pertnint to your main body of work. So, to be brief, what I’m trying to say is that last line is a nod to a fellow poet.
The group for in-world notifications etc is: The NB Drinking & Writing Society. Should be searchable by tomorrow morning, depending on how quickly SL populates it.
I regret to miss todays booze ‘n bitch, and hope to make the next one! Please send all juicy gossip from today to ceejay.writer@gmail.com. Write on!
A good meet. I am glad I happened upon it, thank you for the lovely welcome! I should have had more than 3 hours sleep and also my newest bottle of absinthe soon so will likely be more ‘interesting’ {or fanciful?} next time! One can only try…
Thank you EVERYONE who came! It was great fun, I look forward to our next meeting! Which will, hopefully, be a little more organized?
