Reviewing the Damage

Tepic surveyed the damp, gleaming clean alcove to one side of the sewer with mild annoyance. Where once there had been several barrels of urchin brew quietly bubbling away there was now precisely nothing, almost two weeks work washed away by that Mr Goatl…Mornington. A half dozen good vole traps had also been lost, as well as a number of urchin cashes. Thankfully, the few urchins who had been down in the sewer system under Clockhaven had been alerted to the flood by the roaring noise several minutes before the water arrived, so were able to escape with little more than a soaking. Unlike the floods caused by the winter rainfalls, or the spring thaw, this one had continued for several days, washing away much that was useful to the smaller residents of the City, and the sewers were going to take a long time to dry out enough to make decent shelter again. It was good they had the old factory set up, so the refugees could kip down and recover in the dry.

Ah well, at least the still had not been damaged, located as it was above ground, nestled behind the tannery, but beer was going to be a problem until they could scrounge more brewing apparatus.  Still, Tepic knew of a back way down to the cellars under Brunel  Hall, since Mr Goa…Mornington had caused the problem, he was sure he would want to fill the gap. Now all they needed was 40 foot of rubber tubing, a stirrup pump, bung hammer and an empty barrel. Oh, and a hand cart of course………

That night, a surgical suppliers, coopers and the Ladies Fire Brigade had visitations, with carefully written notes left in place of missing equipment, to inform them that the items had been borrowed, and would be back in a few days, so not to worry…

*delivers some barrels and pipes she found on the sewerage island to Tepic’s little house, along with a few mushrooms and a lost cat*

Given the stench of the detritus that was in that island, I’d start over.

Hey Tepic I still have some beer left over from the brewery that wasn’t burnt. Maybe I can donate them to the bar.

Mornington strolls through Port Babbage and see’s a few glares of hatred from the Urchins.  Even the rumour gang urchins seemed to be really quiet this week.  It wasn’y until reading Emersons flyer infront of The Gangplank that he realised…

    “oops…”

Later that evening, a cart covered in a large dusty covering made it’s way to the sneaky vole containing a fresh barrel of Red Sun beer, a case of Cigars and a bottle of 25 year Chivas with instructions to put the Chivas in plain sight on the bar so Emerson got wind of it.

After seeing the cart off Mornington started to winder why some of the barrels in the cellar was almost bone dry, having not been opened…

“I’ve heard of evaporation but that takes the biscuit….”

*Emerson thinks about the sewer disaster and its impact on the city’s urchin population. He then quickly makes a flyer to hand around town.*

Free drinks for any non zombie urchin at the Gangplank for the rest of the month of October.

*Emerson looks at the flyer then thinks about how much urchins actually drink. He grabs his pen and hasitly scribbles again*

    Three drink limit per vist.

*Emerson quickly scribbles a note to Malus instructing him to load up the steam carriage with a dozen kegs and deliver them to Tepic.*

I assume the stills alcohol makes good lighting fuel young Tepic? might last longer than candles, but a mite more explosive in confined spaces. Have you thought of banana beer? nice drink and fibre in one go, very healthy.
