Late Monday night – Early Tuesday
Avariel Falcon lay among reams of paper tape, punch cards and electrical cables.
“Drat this unicorn form, what I would give for a functional set of hands…”.
“Unit #6! Unit #6! Hey cloth ears! How are the system tests going?”.
Unit #6, a bulky humanoid automaton turned his large shiny brass head towards Avariel.
“Unit #1… System… checks… show… no… abnormalities… all… systems… nominal…”.
Avariel snorted, “All systems are nominal, except nothing works! This makes no sense at all!”.
At that moment a small rat like clockwork skittered into the room.
“Unit1unit1allconduitsgoodnoproblemswithwiringorsteampipes!”.
Avariel watched as the small automaton skittered away down another steam conduit…
This was not a good day. Since the portal generator failure she had turned away several high paying passengers. If this continued her attempts to make a viable business out of portal travel would be in ruins!
The clockwork unicorn grumbled, “This fault makes no sense! How can a portal across the city work perfectly but another to Caledon fail completely, it’s as if there were extreme aetheric power fluctuations! Yet the generators are working perfectly!?”.
Unit #6 rumbled “Maybe… we… could… play… a… nice… game… of… chess?”.
Avariel sighed…
