Worried About Ms. Capalini

This year’s Flash Fiction book is now available for patrons in the Burton Library, but oh my, I am concerned. Not wishing to concern the citizens of New Babbage, I have tried to deal with this on my own, without success.

The Flash Fiction book is late because Miss Capalini has been behaving strangely for some time now. She’s been spending an inordinate time in the library archives. I suspect she’s discovered something there. I don’t know what, but I do know it has something to do with the history of New Babbage. She won’t come out of the archives, even going to the point of locking herself inside.  She won’t talk and refuses all help.

What could it be? What is causing her to behave so out of character? This is so not like Ms Capalini. I am worried, very worried.

Are you sure it’s not an illness? Have all the usual afflictions been ruled out? An imbalance of humours, cavorite toxemia (Is she floating at all?), demonic possession, proton deficiency, aethernaut’s elbow, temporal ex-phasia, or a simple case of exo-hypo-proto-neo-grano salisitis?

Well, this early, there wouldn’t be..  I have to find it.. I certainly have to find it before any of the brothers do.  Oh gott, I have to find it before they do..  The sheer historical value, the way we perceive mechanics..  I have to find it.

    This could change everything…

*Dons her leather apron and toolkit, grabs a lantern and quietly slips away into the morning fog of Babbage, searching*
