There Is To Be A Marriage, and Kane’s Story

This is an OOC post.

Many of you have met Kane here and there around the town.  Some of you have interacted and intersected with his various crazy doings.

About a year ago, I was touring New Babbage and said, “This place needs a gargoyle!”  It just so happens that I also accidentally ran into a book placed in a sewer, and then ran into the person seeking that book placed in that sewer — Mr. Underby.  Thus began the fate of Kane the Gargoyle.

When Mr. Underby made his dramatic return to Babbage, Mr. Galactic Baroque used an estate manager tool to freeze Kane right in the middle of an intense roleplaying scene because he didn’t believe Kane should be allowed as a character.

I parlayed that into a change for Kane.  Baron Wulffenbach and Mason Scientist took in the inert gargoyle and transferred his memories into a steam automaton in the form of a crow.  And thus he is to this day — a curious and helpful steam clockwork.

It’s in this form that he met another automaton, Marian Dragovar, a frequent visitor from Armada.  As they communicated, some rather curious emergent behaviors began to form, as they do in all complex machines.  Soon, they became accustomed to one another’s company.

Countless hours were spent downloading books, poems, and songs onto memory cylinders for analysis and comparison.  Experiments were made involving the custom of “dating”. Gradually new emergent tasks took over Kane’s processing, and he discovered that some processes would begin to delay themselves if Marian was not present.  This effect correlated with accounts from organic beings of the effects of “love”.

It was thus that Kane proposed the question of marriage to Marian, in the spirit of bonding two units into a single conceptual unit with increased application.  In a time of strife and confusion over the rights and place of created beings, it was hoped that this bond would strengthen the sister communities of Armada and Babbage and bring the debate to the forefront for a resolution.

Marian accepted.

We’re still planning the event itself and all the details, but anyone who knows Kane who would like to contribute, you’re very welcome.  We haven’t settled on a date, but we’re aiming for early December.  Official IC invitations will be sent out soon.  The ceremony will be smallish, but the reception will be open.

The ceremony will be in Armada, and the reception will be in Babbage.  Does anyone have a venue appropriate to a marriage reception?

We already have the following assignment ideas:

Maid of Honor: Yelena Istmal

Best “Man”: LoPxie Artful

Father of the Groom: Mason Scientist

Catering: Ambrose Steampunk

DJ: Blackberry Harvey

Sir, I would be pleased and honored to allow you use of the New Babbage Grand Ballroom, (next to O’Mianin’s Pub in new babbage sim, a.k.a. “The Gut”) for your reception. I have just finished redecorating the place with a more steampunk style flair. Please let me know if this works for you, and if so, when you would like it for.

    Congratulations!

    Congratulations!

You’re sure it was not those backpacks the urchins had made from the reality enforcement bombs that froze you? I remember they were wearing them as they came running to the train station to “rescue” me from Mr. Underby, in case he decided to cast a spell or something. *grins*

IC I used the reality enforcement devices to say that the thin threads of enchantments that kept Kane animated had been severed.

      It all worked out.

we were dreadfully heartbroken when we thought you had frozen for ever… tho’ perhaps everything has turned out rather well after all… for perhaps you may never have met miss marian, otherwise… imagine!

congratulations, dear kane.  you are a good and noble soul and i shall be awfully proud to be at your wedding.
