The Slenderman Pt 1 (Cemetery nights)

Gabriell Satkolhya Anatra, you are an idiot, I thought to myself.

So, here I was standing guard over the cemetery, alone, and with an untested weapon, no less..

How do I get myself into these situations?

Ahh, may as well start at the beginning.

I had just gotten back from making my evening rounds when I caught sight of it. That unearthly, inhumanly thin, black figure was back. Some have taken to referring to him, and it does seem to be a him, as The Slenderman. It’s a fitting name even though he lacks a face or distinguishing features at all, save his red-lined black vest.

Yes, I can say that with certainty now. I got entirely too close a look at him last night, after all.

I’m wandering again. I’d caught sight of it standing alone in the deserted graveyard. I stood still and quiet while I waited to see what it would do. There had been tombs and graves opened and I had the idea it might be looking for something so I wanted to test it. The creature, spirit, or whatever it was stood for a while apparently doing nothing, then it moved. It was quick yet unhurried as it left the cemetery. It did not seem in any way inconvenienced in doing so. It headed down the narrow walk just to the side of City Hall, walking like it had every right to
be taking a fine Sunday stroll. It strode straight up the way between the Mureaux place and the theater, past the park and the construction site and out onto the lane near the Brunel hotel. It moved quite fast and we had unusual difficulty keeping up with it, as if some force wanted to impair us in our chase.

Us? Oh, yes, by this time Mr Melnik and Ms Netizen had joined the little fox hunt.

I suppose it was just as well we failed to catch it. We had no idea what we intended to do with it if we had. Or, perhaps more likely, what it intended with us. Fortunately it was academic, as the creature lost us as it turned onto the main lane.

Others have seen this being. It seems quite clear that it can come and go as it pleases and is in no way confined to the cemetery or it’s environs.

I remember saying “I think it’s time for something to be done about it.” This was my first mistake of the night.

I suggested that we consult Mr Footman and post guards to watch the cemetary. . this would be the second mistake. There’s a lesson in that.

Should I survive to see the end of this Slenderman business I’ll try to remember it.

So thus it was that I ended up standing alone in a cemetery at night with an apparently untested weapon in the ‘hopes’ that something would happen and that I would live through it in such condition as to render an account of it.

*sighs*
