The Red Dragon Mystery

Wright crept up the stairs to the top of the Red Dragon, the wolf
slowly drawing a pistol from his vest as he went along the creaking
wooden structure. “What the hell am I doing here?” The wolf asked
himself as he climbed higher into the building. The answer was simple,
he was looking for what everyone thought was a ghost, but the wolf had a
feeling something else was going on.

Wright left the
acrid smell of smoke behind him as he ascended the final steps to the
red dragon’s storeroom, He scanned the room for signs of movement and
was just about to go further in when a voice spoke to him, demanding an offering.

Wright blinked a moment and shook his head in disbelief “The owner of this place was right, there is something up here.” He thought to himself before quickly turning his attention back to the ghost. The wolf tried to play coy, but the ghost or whatever it was quickly lost patience with Wright’s attempt to drag out the encounter.

It had only been a few minutes since the creature started talking, but it had already gotten fed up and threatened to take one of the patrons as an offering.

“Is that so?” The wolf said into the darknes as he slowly cocked the hammer on his pistol.

There was a sudden flash of movement from the far end of the room and the wolf reacted as quickly as he could. He squeezed the trigger on his gun four times in rapid succession as the creature darted across the room, behind crates and out a rather large hole in the wall.

Wright dashed to the hole, but whatver he had shot at had moved fast. The wolf didnt know whether it was the creature’s speed or the fumes from below making him sluggish, but every shot had missed the target completely.

“Damn” He muttered to himself as he scanned the roof lines around the red dragon and looked to the alley below. “That sure as heck wasn’t a ghost.” he said quietly, realizing that he had just probably made things worse for the red dragon.
