Steampunks of New Babbage group chat

Im posting this in here so folks can link to it from the group chat if they need to…its a repeat of the notice i just sent out via the group…

Just a reminder that unlike the actual regions that make up New Babbage, the Steampunks of New Babbage chat is PG/General rated.

http://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/Maturity

I’m sending this notice out cause over the course of a few months Steampunks chat has been heading down the Mature road…until such time that Tenk changes Steampunks chat to Mature, this group has to stay within the rules layed down by the Lab when the rating is PG.

Spread the love

((And here I have taken a new job working evenings))

I seem to miss out on all the fun stuff, alas!

I sometimes chat in my undershorts.

I will be sure to drop more F bombs in group chat

Seriously, there’s been some really offensive chat turning up occasionally on the Steampunks channel.   I have a chat log someone sent me, that isn’t fun or amusing, it’s offensive, and I’m rather disappointed more people didn’t stand up and complain at the time.

We’re all adults, and should realize where the lines are.

This isn’t about the occasional F bomb being dropped.   That sort of things happens, but directing particularly offensive words against particular persons or groups should be right out.

This is my personal opinion, mind you.

Ah somehow feel like this is my fault. I do have sme pretty controversial opinions that may offend some folks…

    Sorry ya’ll

opinions are not always the culprit.  The quote from LL about General says it all to me…

“General regions are areas where you’d feel free to say and do things
that you’d be comfortable saying and doing in front of your grandmother,
      or a grade school class”

errrrmmmm…… they obviously never met my grandmother….. :-)

While “Mater Tua Caligas Gerit” is a family motto, and whatever proclivity to profanity I may have IRL…you know what I meant.

The really sad part is  *Most* people just tend to close out the Babbage Chat window

and this in turn  hurts the whole community ..

a community that so many put time and effort in … just saying !!

    • Jedburgh30 Dagger Jedburgh30 Dagger February 14, 2011

Maybe so, but there are some nights it gets so nettlesome that I can’t force myself to keep it open.

    • Jonathon Spires Jonathon Spires February 14, 2011

Most times if I just cant stand what I am seeing on group chat, I’ll close it down. In an extreme couple of cases I muted the person. Otherwise I am apt to engage and make the problem worse, which I know I have done once or twice.

A preferable alternative would be to IM a group admin if they are on.  I know alot of them, myself included, tend to be busy with other responsibilities and can’t always follow the chat closely and may miss stuff.  If people are having an inappropriate conversation and refuse to take it to private IM when asked, we will and we have removed people from the chat.  Steampunks chat represents us, and it reflects poorly on the community as a whole when it becomes a free for all.

I should have done just this.

Nobody needs to hear the mutterings of my ID.

Gods know I’ve loathed it enough over the years. Displaying it in public like that is the functional equivlent of forgetting to wear my pants.

Never try to out-sociopath a sociopath. It only drags you to their level and even if you do win you still have to deal with yourself afterwards.

If I ever get a little too spicy in the group (which I know I do now and then), just give me a reminder and I will stop it at once.

*looks cute and innocent*  It wasn’t me!  I swear!

      • Zaida Gearbox Zaida Gearbox February 14, 2011

It wasn’t!  Really!  Though I’m dying to know what was in the chat log Doc O got…

  10. Grendel Footman Grendel Footman February 14, 2011

I keep it open, but half the time am usually distracted, so I’m not always paying attention to it, and might miss things.

other than that, I’m not often easily offended, unless someone’s been shouting racial comments in group chat I haven’t noticed

I ususally let Steampunks run in the background, and check it now and then to see if it’s any fun, or if I might get some information. Other than dreadful puns that should be against the laws of man and nature, I have not seen anything particularly objectionable, but then agin, I have been a bit scarce lately.

Perhaps my skin is jist that thick?

  12. DaveDorm Gaffer DaveDorm Gaffer February 17, 2011

OK, so no more talk of midget goat porn?

    • Glaubrius Valeska Glaubrius Valeska February 17, 2011

uhhh, okay, so what part is bad? The midget or the goat part?

      • Mr Tenk Mr Tenk February 18, 2011

Did Mr. Tenk just giggle??? o.O

            • Zaida Gearbox Zaida Gearbox February 19, 2011

Oh good.  The idea of Mr. Tenk giggling was kind of traumatizing.

You know you can’t keep her in a bubble forever.  Either you tell her about the birds and the bees or she learns it from her goat friends over at the hay bale.

          • Jedburgh30 Dagger Jedburgh30 Dagger February 20, 2011

It seems so wrong to start making sex-ed jokes about a goat in a thread that started in talking about keeping chat content PG.

  13. DaveDorm Gaffer DaveDorm Gaffer February 19, 2011

[Looks sheepishly] I guess that was pretty b-a-a-a-a-a-a-d. . .

  14. Glaubrius Valeska Glaubrius Valeska February 20, 2011

    Got any wood for sheep?

    • Grendel Footman Grendel Footman February 21, 2011

I was just playing Cataan this weekend too, you’ve never seen so many people try not to use the term ‘wood for sheep’ so diligently.
