Log of the Ligeia

November 11 – Wind SSW at 10 knots. Fair sky with few clouds.

We continue to pursue the pod of kraken that was sighted on November 10. At sunrise we launched both airships and both air crews promptly engaged the larger of the sighted kraken. The first airship did make fast with harpoon, but failed to shock the beast into a stupor. Eraged, the beast lashed out at the second airship.

A minute later the gondola of the second airship was observed to be falling into the sea, as the gas envelope had torn loose. A search was instituted, but only debris was found. The first airship was recovered without further incident, and her crew stated they did see the gondola separate, and could see men aboard as the gondola plunged into the sea.

The crewmembers who died are Utai Tashtempa, harpooner, Jean-Pierre Bouvier, airship pilot, and Wiggy Undertone, airship crewmate. May they rest in peace.
