San Francisco before the Quake

Boing Boing pointed me at this newly released print of a film of San Francisco’s High Street, filmed several days before the 1906 earthquake and fire which destroyed most of the old buildings.

The print has been cleaned up, and speed corrected so that people are walking at normal speed.

Downloadable from Archive.org

The download also includes a version of editable quality (for those with the skill to edit in an airship or themselves).

Either way, still fascinating to watch.

Spread the love

((It’s interesting to note that rush hour traffic etiquette hasn’t changed all that much in the last 100 + years))
