Brer Rabbit is causing trouble again for all his friends and enemies. Join us for tales of Brer Fox, Brer Bear, Brer Wolf, Brer Tarrypin, Miz Cricket, the Doodang, and scores of others! The Uncle Remus tales, originally written down by Joel Chandler Harris, were first published over a hundred years ago, and serve as the largest collection of African-American folklore. In this four-book series, Julius Lester masterfully retains the flavor of the tales, while dropping the heavy dialect of the Harris originals and adding contemporary language and references– ensuring that the stories will be understood and enjoyed by new generations of readers.

Swiss Family Robinson was published in 1813 and it is sometimes attributed to Johann Rudolph Wyss. In reality, the story was actually written by his father, Swiss pastor, Johann David Wyss in order to entertain and instruct his family. When the Robinson family are shipwrecked on an uninhabited desert island, they find a new world of adventure and knowledge. As they learn to cope with the many problems of life on the island, they become even closer as a family. Part 1, read in voice.

7:00pm – 8:00pm SLT
Where: West of Ireland Library and Cultural Center
http://slurl.com/secondlife/West%20of%20Ireland/44/157/29

From Crap himself: Now that you’ve heard the best storytellers in Second Life, how about a break from all that excellence? It’s time once again for some less-than-wholesome and somewhat deranged 100 word stories from the disturbed windup robot Crap Mariner. This event will be performed in Voice and will use sound loops, so be sure to have both turned on. Remember: If it sucks, it’ll be over quickly.
