As if I didn’t already have enough to worry about.
I took a walk in town and business took me into Clockhaven, so I decided to stop by the Gangplank and see how Star was doing. What I saw there gave me more than just a suspicion that something is not right in House Macbain.
I walked in and found the place empty, save for Star herself. She was curled up on the bricks of the hearth, staring at the fire. Her appearance took me aback. Her hair was unkempt, her face was coated in soot and particles of food, her dress looked like she had worn it for a week, and it smelt like she hadn’t bathed or tidied up after herself in quite some time.
Kneeling by her side, I asked her why she was on the hearth. She told me she just wanted to rest by the fire. I tried to convince her to go upstairs and have a bath, but she just laid there, rocking back and forth. She told me she was fine, and that ‘he’ was taking good care of her.
I stayed there for a moment, hoping I could get her to come out of this malaise she was in…but a few moments more proved that I did not have enough influence to make her move. Star told me she was just fine, and she began to hum a tune that I vaguely recall, but could not quite put my finger on.
The emotion of it all hit me, and I could feel the tears welling up. Not now. I couldn’t break down over this now. Too much g(the entry is not clear here, as it appears the ink was smudged and the paper was water-stained)walking out.
Maybe Kaylee knows whats going on.
