Found this in a link at Wyrd forums (makers of a steampunk/western tabletop game and company I hope to be working for soon) about a new tabletop game in development, with an evil criminal mastermind Holmes, the concept art was interesting, this could be the mirror universe Holmes
Interesting :) I wonder when and why he turned to the bad. Maybe this is the Holmes who sliced up Killer Evans, or the man who sat in Montague Street growing slowly sick of the human species. He’s not all that naturally given to evil, but Holmes is the sort of person who’s dangerous when given a crusade; the more unpleasant a task is the more ruthless he is liable to be. :p
I find Mirror!Holmes a bit difficult most of the time, but I do think Holmes & Watson each dodged a fall by meeting when they did. Throw them together a few bitter years later and they might present a less pleasant face to the world. It’s really much harder to turn Watson evil, since he’s more liable to turn his darker feelings inwards upon himself. Holmes, conversely, is already part-way to despising humanity ;) and mainly happens to be ‘good’ due to his strong, occasionally near-religious belief in Justice*. Well, humans have not always agreed on what exactly Lady Justice has to say about anything.
I must say, I do like the Frank Wiles-ness of that drawing with its grumpy Holmesface. Those devices look a bit topheavy though – I hope they’re made of something lightweight, or he’ll have to be careful not to lean over too far backwards. Possibly cultivating a sort of sneering lean on the back foot could be effective? I am also impressed by his method of ensuring a ready supply of tobacco regardless of wind and weather (presumably with an urchin or handy mirror on hand to recharge it in three hookah problem situations.) :)
Here is my own Evil Steampunk Paget Redux, inspired by an image by Doctor Kaligawa and of the Sidney Paget illo from The Naval Treaty.
* of course Holmes is also capable of being kind, but then Moriarty reputedly had a very kind affect: “When he put his hand on my shoulder as we were parting, it was like a father’s blessing before you go out into the cold, cruel world.” :) Perhaps in this universe Moriarty is solely a very kindly expert in planetary dynamics.
“Moriarty: Extreme Habidasher”
See, I see Extreme Haberdashery as more of a non-evil Col. Moran thing: capable of sewing on miniscule buttons with pinpoint accuracy, sizing up your inside leg measurement from sixty feet, or monogramming handkerchiefs with an air rifle…blindfold.
The man was wasted as an assassin.
and I should actually start paying attention to what account I’m logged onto as well apparantly
i thought Habidasher was hats? i live in a town that has a habidasher/blues music shop, and it sells hats and CD’s
Millinery is hats, habidashery is small sewing bits and bobs, including bits to decorate hats! Like the idea of a combined music and hats shop though…
and again, meant to post as grendel
