One man and his Chivas

In a run down old wooden cabin in the middle of Kirkwall’s rolling moorland in Orkney, Scotland, an old Remington 33 rpm record player bursts into song…Year: 1998

That’s life, that’s what all the people say.

You’re riding high in April,

Shot down in May.

But I know I’m gonna change that tune,

When I’m back on top, back on top in June.

In the dark gloom of the cabin the embers of a wood fire start to die down, in the corner a shadowed figure pulls out a cigar and lights it.

…I said That’s life, and as funny as it may seem.

Some people get their kicks,

Stompin’ on a dream

But I dont let it, let it get me down,

Cause this fine old world it keeps spinnin’ around.

Aberdeenshire: Year – 1801

A horse drawn carriage rides up a cobblestone path to a newly built mansion built in the leafy wooded suburbs of Tarves.  The carriage draws up infront of a large mansion house.  The door opens and two brothers step out.

As the two brothers walk into their new mansion, a hooded figure smoking a large cigar presents them with just enough money to start their new enterprise of a grocery store in central Aberdeen.  One of the brother, James Chivas, thanks the stranger and asks him what he wanted in return…the hooded man never said anything, simply held James a key to a locked safe in Lloyds of London…a safe which was not to be opened till 1850.

Kirkwall Moors: Year – 1998

The shadowy figure pulls the cork on a bottle of Chivas and pours a double.

I’ve been a puppet, a pauper, a pirate,

A poet, a pawn and a king.

I’ve been up and down and over and out

But I know one thing:

Each time I find myself flat on my face,

I pick myself up and get back in the race.

Aberdeen: Year – 1850

James Chivas was looking at the ledger books for the House of Schivas and realised that his fortunes was on a steep downturn.  Unable to see a way to make it to the end of the year he travels to London to visit his brother for advice.  His brother Thomas tells James to sell off the holdings of the company.  James then remembers the locked safe.

James travels to Lloyds of London and produces the key to the safe.  The Lloyds banker takes the key and 10 minutes later returns with a large, heavy ironwood box.  Upon returning to his hotel room James opens the box and find it contains government bonds signed to the Chivas family inleiu of a full bond return..to the sum total of £2000, five shillings and sixpence.

The letter underneath all the bonds states that as a token of the McAndrews estate help, that the Chivas branding of any and all future whiskey or distilled blended or aged single malt whiskey would be cost free to the family for the next 200 years.

The signature at the bottom of the letter read…

Victor Mornington-McAndrews
The Huntsman Cabin
Kirkwall Parish
Orkney Islands
Scotland

Kirkwall: Year – 1998

The shadowed figure downs the last of his Chivas, places the glasses back down and the distinct sound of hooves are heard as the figure steps into an old worn down wardrobe.  The wardrobe vanishes in the midst of a strange wheezing groaning sound…mixed in with the faint sound of chuckling…

Thats Life, Thats Life and i cant deny it
Many times, I thought of cutting out
but my heart won’t buy it,
but if theres nothing shaking come this here July
I’m gonna roll myself up, in a big ball
and die…
My, my…

Mornington will return…very soon :)

Spread the love

    ((So…

You’re apparently very long-lived, at the least, so you can collect during that whole 200 years.

Plus, you have a TARDIS, so you can travel back and forth along that whole 200 years and collect more.

    Dat’s a LOTta whisky.

*wanders off, singing softly, “Cigareets and whusky and wild, wild wimmin/ They’ll drive you crazy, they’ll drive you insaaaane…”))
