Though I have called myself a New Babbager for a Very Long Time (nearly four years!), I go by different reputations in other realms. In Seraph City, I am co-owner of a Jazz Club. In New Toulouse, I am the big sister of the owner of the local oddities and curious goods shoppe. And in Armada, I am the Punnery Officer of Armada’s Scoundrel Fleet.
In that last capacity, I am currently on a mission which brings me over the sea to New Babbage on a quest. I believe at some time in the far-flung future, this might be known as ‘crossing the beams’. However, the Admiral of the Scoundrel Fleet, the notorious and well-dressed Captain Static, has gone missing. We decided to split up in order to cover more ground. I volunteered to search for her in the place I know the best – New Babbage. Specifically in the pubs. Well, really, its not as if I’m likely to find our Admiral in the library, now is it?
If you wish to follow along with our search, replies will occasionally drop into the “Search for Cappy” thread over in the Armada Forum. We’re pirates. Don’t expect any sort of reliability or regularity in sending our reports home, though I think this adventure will produce some interesting results!
A bar-crawl in New Babbage! Now *that* will be a spectacular test of endurance.
I’m going to try to alternate between coffee and booze-ish bars, to be honest. Besides, there’s nothing quite like a wide awake drunk, right?
Brunel Hall and the CocoaJava. Hmm. Two coffee establishments, and fifty bazillion bars. The odds don’t look good.
I can vouch for the fact that there is quite a bit of liquor at Brunel Hall.
Or at least there was.
*admires the newly-stocked Gangplank bar*
Supplemental report to V. Jervil:
I’ve heard whispers that Miss Junie Ginsberg is using creative methods to stock the Gangplank. That pub was built by the Seraph pirates years ago, and I suppose pirate methods of acqusition are a timehonored tradition there still.
(if you were to send a few idle scoundrels out to, well, count the inventory for her, I’m sure she’d quite appreciate the attention. Bring sturdy crates.)

For the Fleet!
I look forward to seeing you.
I will buy you a drink should we cross paths. I hear you always stay thirsty, my friend.
Babbage should host an annual crawl…something of a Babbage Olympics. Could be one of many events. ((I wonder if there is a method to produce a drink inworld that with increasing volume used, improves a visible and “real” effect on the av’s, much like drunkeness. Then if there was a way to randomize certain effects so that depending upon certain variables, people could out drink one another… *quick runs to do some research*))
Talk to Holmes and Watson – they’ve organized the previous Bar Crawls! A progressively inebriated animation would be heaps of fun, I agree.
I second this line of inquiry!
i have a clever plan….
(or… any month can be national drinking month)
At least its not a cunning plan.
I can see it now.
Go to one bar asking if they’d seen her. The bartender doesn’t want to answer questions unless you buy a drink or five. Find out we just missed her as she went to another bar. Repeat 20 times (or however many bars there are in New Babbage).
I see no downside to this search process, Cyan!
I didn’t see a downside to it just thought that would be the process heh.
Besides if I’m providing even a couple of those bars beer from my brewery I say the more drinking the better ;3
Oh, my goodness. Would our Admiral skip the pubs and go right for the source? I must search the brewery! Barrel by barrel if need be!
Note: Add more Barrels…
Rubys ..
Ruby’s indeed. I have a list of pubs to search, and Ruby’s is on it. Can’t miss the oldest, most Cthulhu-free pub in Babbage!
Ceejay have you considered talking to the fire brigade to see which bars have recently been on fire? That may be a good place to start.
An excellent idea, Vernden! I’ll make inquiries. A list of recent conflagrations in town, crossreferenced with my list of pubs and coffee houses might, with luck show a pattern of travel.
