I noticed something recently that took me a while to figure out…. someone walking down a babbage street , then vanishing , then appearing again. After a relog and cache clear I stood waiting for everything to rezz to find another person do the same thing.
THEN I realised what it was…. you can set parcels so people outside can’t see those within … which is great for changing clothes etc, just not quite so good if your plot extends under the street, and across to the other side. Because anyone walking past, disappears as they cross it lol.
I wonder if people should keep it set so you can see in, or maybe split those parcels so half is in the road half off and the owner can set the part off the street to be private ?
really? you learn something new everyday, that explains why I’ve seen people dissapear midwalk, I always assumed they crashed with alarming frequency
I think it’s fairly new, along with being able to return objects poking across the parcel boundary, not just ones within your plot of land.
Oh, I’m SO glad to finally know why this happens. I’ve seen it with Emerson several times, where we’ll be walking and he’ll disappear even though I can still see his green dot on my mini-map. Such a weird experience.
Thanks for posting about it, Amber!
Yeah that came in last year, Parcel Privacy Settings.
A parcel can be set so anyone outside the parcel cannot see, or chat (in local chat) with anyone inside that parcel and vice versa. For totally stand off parcels like the ones in Clockhaven and Academy its fine, but for the older parcels which go out into the main roads lime in Square it causes folks to vanish infront of ya.
So it’s not an intermittant aether transitional distortion. Professor Valeska will be very disappointed.
That’s strange, I never saw it happen. I knew about the parcel option, but I guess I don’t walk down the street behind others often enough.
This might be something that could be discussed with Tenk once he gets back. Similar to the restriction on ban lines in Babbage.
