New Babbage Inventory Cleansing Month

After the food hangover and as we await the horrors of debts notices, it is often customary to take a cleansing retreat to a spa. We’ve got a spa in Babbage so lets work on the cleansing.

I am arbitrarily declaring January to be New Babbage Inventory Cleansing Month!

I was recently hunting through my inventory for a couch and pulled out an old 32 prim couch with an alpha texture scrollwork across the top. It was also no copy. It went into the bin.

With the advent of mesh onto the grid, many things that we’d bought years ago in the days of presculpts just don’t cut it any more. Furniture, vehicles, that 23 prim static cat you thought would be good to sit on your porch. Plus, most of us have attempted building and have put it aside and never gone back to it. How many things in your inventory are called Object?

So I propose a cleanse.

Delete any landmark more than 12 months old. Maybe even 6. It’s most likely out of date anyway. Delete all the landmarks that you have with your clothes folders (if you don’t automatically do it when you open them). Delete all the items in your inventory called Object: if you haven’t bothered to name it it can’t be that important. Same with items called o2m1p1Mesh (or whatever that default Mesh Studio object name is). Delete them.

Then start going through your objects folder. Sort by date and go to the bottom. Don’t know what it is? Rez it. Is it hideously out of date and of no historical importance? Bin it.

Also, remember all the shoes that used to have invisiprims to hide your AV feet? You know invisiprims don’t work any more right?

It might take an hour a night or so but just start. As you find things you WANT to keep, sort them into the appropriate folder. Soon you may even be able to find things in your inventory just by going to the right folder.

*This message brought to you by AVs for under 40,000 inventory.

**And I know at least one person who is almost double that.

Spread the love

I approve this recommendation and wish to enquire whether some of this work might not be accomplished in company in the spa.  It might be fun.

Luckily I have a little over 13000… and most of that is from building mesh and the prim versions of them. But Better sorting them would be good too… Also adding Mesh to all your mesh items would be good so when you search for mesh you get them all.

I think boxing old texture packs is in order too.

Mine is just over 46K and I know someone who is borderline on 80K. Soooooo much stuff.

We’re already half way through January, and I shall also emphasize old clothing.  I recently discovered I had 16 pairs of jeans, a few of them copies or otherwise indistinguishable from each other when worn — into the bin.  And shoes.  And old-styled texture shirts. While Christmas is a wonderful time of freebies, yes it IS possible to collect more than you’re ever going to use/rezz/keep — good object habits will keep that INV slim once our hard work of cleansing is done to our satisfaction.

I need to do this.  For the first 2 years I was on SL, I basically just took everything people tossed at me.
