One of the barroom songs has been running around and around within my head for days…. But I can only remember the first few verses…
A fortune made in the mountain, a train south I did take.
I met her at the Central Station, my legs she made pure quake!
I’d look fine with you, said she to me, wrapped in a stoat fur stole,
I pulled out my fat pocketbook, to Wheatstone we did stroll!
O, she was so delicate,
like an iron fist in a glove!
O, my Babbage sweetheart,
won’t you be my love?
We danced all the way to the Palisades, my sweetheart draped in mink,
her beauty was so baffling, I hardly noticed the stink!
I’d look fine with pale pearls, she said to me, draped on me delicate neck,
a purchase was made in Clockhaven, we toasted with triple sec!
O, she was so delicate,
like an iron fist in a glove!
O, my Babbage sweetheart,
won’t you be my love?
….does anyone remember any more?
I’m afraid I only remember the next verse:
We skated the Canals, pearls shining round her neck,
Her beauty so alluring, I was at her beck.
I’d look fine in green, she said to me, with emeralds round my wrist,
My pocketbook was lighter in Port, but it was there we kissed.
O, she was so delicate,
like an iron fist in a glove!
O, my Babbage sweetheart,
won’t you be my love?
This part stands out in my memory:
My darling pulled me northward on our promenade through town,
I followed her so sick with love, to lay my money down.
I’d look fine in gold, she said to me, with a diamond on my hand,
In Babbage Square at City Hall, I put her finger in a band.
O, she was so delicate,
like an iron fist in a glove!
O, my Babbage sweetheart,
won’t you be my love?
I have found a gramophone cylinder recording of this tune at my shop.
Mr. Culdesac, that is amazing! What a credit you do to New Babbage by recollecting this catchy melody!
I’m going to be humming this for the rest of the day.
By Jove, that’s it – you’ve all brought it all back to me! MrMacKnight, you make my heart sing!
Excellent, sir!
I have made this known in Plurkiana and in our common chat. Well done everyone!
Clara has her own theme song. It’s normally sung by opera singers and an orchestra hired by Clara to sing at oppertune moments in her adventures. The song is in in latin. (please excuse my poor latin) but translated here for you convenience. Some of teh opera singers tend to practice it while plastered….
The theme of Clara Tryggvassen
Tenebrosus umbra cecidit,
super dormientis et civitatem
Puellam parvam in vitra apparuerat
Ipsa est cantantes hilarem carmen
(A dark shadow falls
over the sleeping sooty city
The bespeckled maiden appears
singing a cheerful song)
Illa induta ferro arma
Vapor ignis in pectore virtus
Illa pugnat malum in ex eo omnes, est scriptor formis,
Et repraesentat iustitia
(Clothing herself in armor of iron
Powered by steam and the fire in her heart
Fighting evil in all of it’s forms
and representing Justice!)

(Run fast! Fast as you can

Lumen est mortuus
Urbem in tenebris latent;
Nocturno penetrat spem
portantes pacem et amor in et eius excitate
(The light has died
The city is shrouded in darkness
A ray of hope pierces the night
bringing peace and love in it’s wake)
Surgivit ex nocte
Picta in candida puniceo
Cordis & Gear simul
Clarabelle est pervenire
(Emerging from the night
Painted in bright pink
The Heart and Gear together
Clarabelle has arrived)
Mee citus! Ut velox ut vos can
