Long Delayed Echo pt IV

The jury rigged apparatus was held aloft one more time. This was starting to cost money. But perhaps one more time would be all he would need. Spires stood alone in the gondola of his rocket powered airship, its balloons held together with netting, and her engines ready to inject hydrogen peroxide and benzine the second he pressed the ignitor trigger.

A synchronized stopwatch was tied firmly to the control yoke. Mr Lister would be down in the radio room, ready to transmit the powerful wireless transmission northwest to the anomaly.

“This is stupid, this is stupid, this is stupid. I’m too old for this. I’m too old for this.” Spires said to himself, stairing into what would soon be, if it looked as it did last night, void with a glow around it, a strange bit of two dimensions kicking the third one out of town for awhile. So far noone else had noticed.

The chimes on his pocket watch started playing “Blue Danube.” He pulled the trigger.

The void met him. The glow swallowed him. The sky thundered once, and then it was gone.
