LL dropping PayPal for residents outside of the US

I’m one for trawling around on the SL Wiki and the anarchic SL forums…

I came across news that LL has already dropped support for PayPal payments to new residents outisde of the US, and worrying news that once the new “Payment System” is in place for SL…may be dropping support for PayPal to EVERYONE outside of the US…

Link below has folks complaining who have already been affected by this change that Linden Labs have changed.  A change that so far, has been unannounced on the main blogs ran by LL staff…

Hmmm….well this will make playing SL a lot more interesting.  I’m not feeling too comfortable handing over my bank account details or credit card info to others.  I guess I’ll have to either start getting my bakery into fighting form so that it will pay it’s rent or it’ll have to go.

To me, this feels like yet another fine way LL has shot itself in the foot.  I don’t think there’s much left of their feet anymore….they’re going to have to find different targets.

They seem unhealthily interested in getting my personal details. Would this be a step that improves identification of age ahead of the teen grid merge?

On the one hand I like Paypal and it worked well, on the other hand it was always a little bit complicated because I must have the money on the Paypal account to pay Linden.

Now there seem to be much more alternatives, I wish they would write behind them which is for which country.

I hope it’ll will now be easier to pay Linden!

I think it’s all related to this http://www.recentpoker.com/news/888-5173.html

Dragonfish, the b2b division of online gambling group 888.com, branched out into other e-commerce sectors this week, inking a major e-Payments processing agreement with Linden Lab, the creator of the virtual world Second Life, thus diversifying its business beyond the gaming industry.”

Makes sense that this change is only for residents outside of the US, because the US residents can’t use whatever gambling service they have planned, IF that’s what they’re doing.

This was a move they made LAST November actually.  Still seems like it might be related though, as this change in payment options only affects users outside the US, where online gambling is legal.

Loki you bring up a  great point .. Ah but so Does Amadeus ..

pay-pal is not always a welcomed option to all !

Sure, once a person is up and running it seems to work like a gem,

but for new accounts  and transferring of funds to one’s pay-pal account, can be a nightmare due to .. The transaction period

    1) they hold money –  I would imagine with international interactions the usual transaction rate of  24 to 72 hrs could now be  4 to 5 days .. *even more for a new account !

    2) I would blame the entire world economy @ the moment, & perhaps the fact “they can” so why not option ..

Oh joy. At the moment they should be greatful they’re getting money in something other than US funds anyway.

They really love to screw around with things that are working OK.
